Hound dog sits awkwardly in couch, her body twisted so she can rest her chin on the back of it. She looks like she's posing for a painting in a bygone era, dramatically swooning on the divan because her family forbade her from going on a horse-drawn sleigh ride with the blacksmith's handsome young son (he is a gentleman, but her parents believe him to be too low-class to be worthy of her attention.) Instead, she watches the gently falling snowflakes through the window, wondering what they would look like caught in the young man's long eyelashes... Woe. Woe! Except instead she's just a sick dog who fucked around with kitty litter "snacks" and found out. 🙃

Turns out she has IBD, and inflammation = easy blockages = trapped wind = bloat.

Sheppie's IBD is controlled through Rx diet + occasional antacids — no other meds required — so hopefully Clem will be that lucky. 🤞

My poor sick girl. She's in the right home, that's for sure. 💕

Her nails are like black talons because she's part Coonhound and they grow approximately 1 inch per 6 hour period; this special adaptation gives them useful working skills such as climbing trees to reach prey, or stabbing human thighs aggressively demand bits of cheese.

Wednesday night, she came home with strict supportive care instructions, meds, and prescription food.

Thursday night she bloated AGAIN and we rushed back in. >

The vet thinks she had GDV, commonly known as bloat, where the stomach twists and death can occur in less than an hour. 😭 Theory goes, her stomach untwisted during the ride to the vet and dumped all the air into the intestines at once. >

Anyway, original tests showed her small intestines were dilated and pushing her colon off to the side, which looked like it had twisted. Luckily it untwisted by itself as the air trickled through, so no surgery was required. 😮‍💨 >

We rushed poor Clementine to the ER on Tuesday night with bloat. Look at her poor tummy. 😭 I expanded her harness strap by 5" and it STILL wouldn't close. 😭💔💔💔 >

In 2008, I was diagnosed with IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease), specially Crohn's.

In 2011, our rescue kitten was diagnosed with IBD. Kitty Crohn's!

A couple days ago, my rescue dog was diagnosed with IBD. Doggy Crohn's!
