2/2 2/2 Recently Reeves' pick for head of Competition and Market Authority let off volume builders from probe into price collusion. Token payment and it goes away. Speaks volumes.

Yep. Until relatively recently there were many small and medium size developers.

Now the sector focused in hands of few volume builders.

A key problem isn't private building. It's how industry consolidated into ever fewer hands.

It should be both. Public sector should be enabled and financed to build enough masse.

Private sector should be able to build en masse.

Not either/or. When this country saw mass housebuilding growth both sectors were going great guns.

Public-private model of developing public land has been a failure in recent decades. Numerous examples.

Mayor Kahn again today piping up pushing it. Full believer of failed Treasury orthodoxy.

Labour aren't solving housing problems are they? Nowhere near. It's New Labour v2 at best

2/2 Nowhere have I said social/public housing is a silver bullet. We also need a big, big increase in private building.

Even with planning reform, the current economic situation prevents it.

In short term bodies like TfL with land can be boosted. Supports construction sector in private downturn

1. It's the most immediate measure for this country at time. Private sector is not building needed levels anytime soon

2. Approaching £40bn annually on housing benefit and £4bn a year on temp housing a better way to spend?

3. TCPA reform alone is not solving this issue on short to mid term

Nearly 100 pc electrification of Indian Railways strengthens energy security amid West Asia crisis: Report New Delhi, Mar 6 (PTI) While geopolitical tensions in West Asia once again threaten to disrupt global fuel supply chain, Indian Railways has achieved a milestone with 99.4 per cent of its broad gauge ...

Very pleased to see some pickup for our press release on this: Indian Railways ~100% electrification has massively insulated them against oil price shocks.

Apparently this point has now been picked up in a speech by PM Modi today!

They're still banging on about public private partnerships on public land. Won't support public bodies building themselves.

And when the private part of that partnership won't build? More stagnation. Same as last few decades.

Latest reason private sector won't build enough homes will be rising interest rates and mortgages.

Until gov allow public bodies to build big, planning reform isn't going to cut it.

Counter cyclical support for construction industry until private sector improves. Govt won't do it

Spending on housing is currently caught in a trap, with a huge (ballooning) housing benefit bill and temporary accommodation bill. Building many more social rent homes would drastically cut both these bills. This idea is to forgo future tax income to inject more money to development now

The due diligence report at the time showed he lied. Showed his dodgy business interests and investigations. Starmer still appointed him. It was never a good appointment.

He's been dodgy as fuck for decades. He was known as dodgy as fuck at the time.

Will it? Again shows the character of Mandelson which was widely known and Starmer still appointed him, despite a thousand warning signs.

Starmer orders Whitehall standards overhaul
Sir Keir Starmer has ordered an overhaul of Whitehall standards to bolster the vetting process around key appointments and to strengthen financial interest declarations in the wake of the Lord Peter Mandelson scandal.

The Cabinet Office said the “Mandelson case has . . . shown more needs to be done”, as it announced plans to review the national security vetting system.

Okay, but the problem here was not "the process" it was that *you* ignored the process in favour of parachuting in your preferred man? Can't "overhaul" your way out of your own blindspots. You can change whatever you want but that ain't going to do squat if you just ignore the rules.

Darren Jones says the govt agreed to pay Peter Mandelson around £75,000 for being sacked but that Keir Starmer has since said he should return the cash.

Maybe the govt shouldn't have paid it in the first place?

Relationship with Jeffrey Epstein
● A 2019 report commissioned by JPMorgan found that Epstein appeared to

● The report cited Epstein's personal records which showed contact beginning

● After Epstein was first convicted of procuring an underage girl in 2008, their

in jail in June 2009.
● In 2014 Mandelson also agreed to be a "founding citizen" of an ocean

● On reporting of the JP Morgan report, Lord Mandelson's spokesperson said
“Lord Mandelson very much regrets ever having been introduced to Epstein.
This connection has been a matter of public record for some time. He never

Mandelson served as a non-executive director of the Russian conglomerate Sistema until June 2017. I.e. After Russia's 2014 invasion and occupation of Crimea.

Sistema held a majority stake in RTI, a defense technology firm producing radar systems for Russia’s missile early warning system.
