My hill to die on is that "River" is a Christmas song and one of the very best at that.

I donโt have to embrace anything that means me and us harm.

You misspelled "the obvious and literal meaning of the constitution"
07.12.2025 06:49 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Well at least when they use AI to write about an article that doesn't exist you can stop there without agonizing about how to grade it
06.12.2025 23:12 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0To propose that GenAI can compensate for "archival silences" perverts Trouillot's work. It's is a contradiction to say that a product whose logic exacerbates power imbalances--creating a most-likely guess based on the existing record--can restore absences that are the product of those imbalances.
06.12.2025 20:59 โ ๐ 455 ๐ 127 ๐ฌ 9 ๐ 10So the frame you're going with on this one is deadpan literalism?
06.12.2025 14:16 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The entire debate over birthright citizenship is anti-constitutional because the purpose, intent, and text of the 14th Amendment were designed to foreclose any argument about who counts as an American citizen.
05.12.2025 18:54 โ ๐ 2663 ๐ 671 ๐ฌ 56 ๐ 33"Demeaning" trans people is exactly right. Their goal--and what they're most able to easily achieve--is our humiliation. The imposition of indignities. They also hope that, as humiliations often do, it exposes us to ridicule. Perhaps even violence. (e.g. forcibly outing people on their IDs).
06.12.2025 00:14 โ ๐ 1220 ๐ 244 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 4I admit I could never have been an old time union or socialist organizer because they faced literally impossible odds and yet often maintained themes of inevitable victory for years on end. And sometimes won!
19.10.2025 15:06 โ ๐ 179 ๐ 13 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 1Academic freedom is applicable to anyone with a teaching role. You canโt ask graduate students to teach, advise students, and evaluate student work with granting them academic freedom. The recent debacle at OU and a previous one in the School of Social Work at UT Austin illustrate this.
06.12.2025 12:46 โ ๐ 73 ๐ 28 ๐ฌ 4 ๐ 1Here's the reality this example illustrates:
It's not even just about people blindly trusting what ChatGPT tells them. LLMs are poisoning the entire information ecosystem. You can't even necessarily trust that the citations in a published paper are real (or a search engine's descriptions of them).
This afternoon, I was in a meeting with Jay Bhattacharya, and I can confirm this is *exactly* what he both wants and will be doing.
THIS IS NOT HYPERBOLE.
This time, though, if they affirm the Administration's legal representation, they're saying the President can decide to void all jurisprudence on his own accord, without prior findings by the Court, because Trump's people are saying he can just decide the 14th means what he thinks it means.

05.12.2025 22:36 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Remarkable how Trumpโs anti-black racism is both text and subtext, an animating principle for his entire life, and that his government is stocked with white supremacists and Nazis, yet elite media consensus still very much tip-toes around this, and the opposition deems it all a distraction.
