Our Campaign has come to a close. Six years, level 5 to 20.
I made a document for each of my players with all the art and custom cards I made over the years. On the front of the document, I made one last drawing of their characters (which are these).

It's all about preference. I know there are some professional artists who swear by them. And they're much more affordable, so they're good as a starter.
Personally, I need to be able to see where I'm drawing, so I would pick one with a screen any day of the week.

Only imply the shape of the teeth, don't draw individual ones.

Phyrexia: All Will Be One | Hard as Anger, Bright as Joy Separated from the rest of the Planeswalker strike team, Lukka and Nissa must survive in the Hunter Maze or become a part of it.

My favorite one is "Hard as Anger, Bright as Joy" by @langleyhyde.bsky.social, where Lukka gets compleated. His sense of normalcy getting eroded over time by the bond with his Phyrexian beast is incredibly chilling.

Cho'trr'ak/Ferdinand S. Fitzgerald/Fitz (thri-kreen stars druid): Cho'trr'ak was part of a party who found a star map to Spatlantis (space atlantis). However, traps were triggered and only Cho'trr'ak managed to survive. He took name and clothes off of his fallen comrades and continued their search.

Varcian Ruakerym (astral elf artillerist artificer): The spelljammer he served on was taken by a lunar dragon, consigning them to an icy doom in its lair. When Xan appeared, they worked together to escape along with the surviving members of the crew.

Xan (githzerai aberrant mind sorcerer): Lost in the Astral Sea for centuries, fated to be adrift forever and forget herself. But Sehanine Moonbow appeared to her and sent her through a portal to Wildspace, to save Varcian from a lunar dragon.

Ayn, Iron Shadow
A character I made for a D&D oneshot. They're a hobgoblin assassin rogue/shadow monk, an Iron Shadow. Those are spies and assassins for the hobgoblin armies. They typically wear masks depicting devils, and Ayn's chosen devil is a Spined Devil, known for collecting information.

Ilivarra of House Auvryndar (drow twilight cleric): Daughter of Shyntlara Auvryndar, the matron mother of House Auvryndar in Ched Nassad. When word of Valatar (who had attracted the assassin's guild attention) reached Ched Nassad, Shyntlara dispatched Ilivarra to Waterdeep to keep her cousin safe.

Valatar of House Auvryndar (mark of shadow elf conquest paladin/hexblade warlock): Youngest son of Vlonwelv Auvryndar, the matron mother of House Auvryndar in Undermountain. Years later, when his soft-hearted rescuing of Twiip was discovered, he was cursed and exiled to Waterdeep.

Twiip (thri-kreen soulfknife rogue): The unholy progeny of two driders. He was rescued by Valatar and brought to the surface, where he grew up in Waterdeep and became part of the assassin's guild.

The Rivals of Ixalan lands by Dimitar! They're from my favorite plane and I love the way they look, the atmosphere, how you can see Dimitar's brush strokes (in full resolution)...
They were the default land cycle for a long time on Arena too

Rereading the Revenge of the Sith novelisation (needed more Star Wars after Andor) inspired me to finish a piece of Inquisitor - Rise of the Red Blade fanfic that I started more than a year ago, about Tualon Yaluna. About how they break him to become an Inquisitor.

A lot of characters I agree with, but I have not yet seen anyone mention Hekara! She was Ral, Vraska and Kaya's cool Rakdos buddy during WAR. She's more fun than Judith in my opinion 😎
Also Ranna Beleren! Apart from the Jace connection, she's a character from Vrynn, which we still know little about.

This is the birthday present for this year (2025): Salas casting the Temporal Shunt spell as an illustration for Rewind! It's a long story, but the party has access to time travel, and Salas has been exploring chronomancy ever since they got it.

Finally, this is what I made for the player's birthday this year (2025). A depiction of Xithrel casting the spell Dark Star using existing card Void!
They've replaced even more of their body with Etherium, and integrated in the Pact Weapon is now Luxior, which the party recovered from New Phyrexia.

We are approaching the end of the campaign, so I skipped the rare and did the mythic instead (2025).
On New Phyrexia, the party found Darksteel armor, and Qopa has retroffited it to his needs.
So when we see Tezzeret in EoE, I'm curious how the issue of an indestructible Planewalker will be handled.

And finally, if you find yourself interested in more of my customs, I have a Doc with text based custom cards for moments from the campaign, from the first session to the most recent one. It's a bit dry, but it's a neat way to tell the story!

Later, they visited the New Consortium's new HQ on Esper, which was led by a resurrected Dovin Baan (2021), having the time of his life. (Yes, I'm aware the card would be miserable to play against. The rancid vibe is intended, the power level isn't.)

Lastly, I want to show off two NPCs I made planeswalker cards for. Thanks to Xithrel, the party soon found themselves working for Tezzeret's reestablished New Consortium.
First, they went back in time to get Tezzeret's right hand woman: Baltrice (2021).

Voldor received a signature spell as well (2022)! His mechanics in Magic are very directly inspired by Lightning Helix and he's a Storm sorcerer, so.

On Innistrad, they met Voldor, a nyxborn sorcerer/cleric with a complicated relationship to Keranos.
As this player already got an uncommon card, I just made a rare Voldor card (2020). The portrait was a piece I did for the player's birthday (2021)

The third planeswalker to join them during the War of the Spark was Brogmir (2020)! A young Boros legionnaire (minotaur bard/paladin) who ironically had been lost on Ixalan when he was pulled back to Ravnica with the Interplanar Beacon.
He died tragically on Innistrad, quite early in the campaign.

There are two more characters that were part of this party at one point. Their player sadly had to step away (and was replaced by Qopa's player), so there are a few more pieces I can show.
