2) If possible have manipulatives, copies place value charts/part whole model/bar models etc readily available in the classroom 3) write on worksheets or worksheets without too much on the page 4) circulating and marking throughout as many need lots of check ins

GCSE Statistics teachers

How many lessons per week do you have and do you cover the course over 1 or 2 years?

Thank you!

Maths teaching thought for the day:

Students should meet almost all maths topics long before they see any formalised notation for them.

E.g.
This, before algebraic simultaneous equations.

We also have mathswatch and mymaths, we only have 50-100 pupils using them and both offer affordable packages to v small schools. We also have go teach maths and maths box and both are great!

Core Maths teachers - I’m looking at misleading diagrams/charts with my class on Friday. Anyone got any β€˜great’ ones I can share with them? I’m going to use this classic but on the look out for a few more crackers @ecrmaths.bsky.social @davegjones.bsky.social @coremathscat.bsky.social

We have very small class sizes. Each student has a plastic zip folder with an A4 exercise book, pencil case and sometimes a plastic wallet as well. They either glue in sheets or put them in a plastic wallet. Everything is kept in the classroom which helps.

Finland & PISA – A fall from grace but still a high performe… What has happened to Finland's PISA scores?

I work in a school and agree school staff work so hard and some things need to change!
Just debunking the myth about Finland and Pisa results though compared to UK. Finland’s resluts have been declining over last few years. www.aqa.org.uk/aqi/finland-...

GCSE Maths – Do Now

A friend of mine has just launched this website that I think is pretty great for generating quick starters for A-Level maths and he has started adding some questions for Further Maths too.

I agree with this. I’ve been teaching for 26 years and the last 4 have been in an semh special school. It’s still hard work but so rewarding and the work/life balance is so much better than any mainstream school I’ve worked in.

Y8 were factorising today. First we worked backwards from some area models, and then used prime factor tiles to model some harder examples. #MathsToday
