Rendaku: Why Hito-Bito isn't Hito-Hito Rendaku, aka sequential voicing in Japanese, is the reason why HitoBito isn't HitoHito. Learn the rules behind it for an 80% guess rate.

"Rendaku happens when two or more words join together to form one word, and the initial consonant of the second word becomes voiced. (In written form, it gets the little dakuten ゛ or handakuten ゜mark.) That's rendaku!"

Anywho, here's the most common example for explaining rendaku so it makes more sense.
人々 is hitobito, meaning people. 人 meaning person + 々 which is a repeater for w/e kanji came before, so its read like 人人.
But it's ひとびと (hitobito) rather than ひとひと (hitohito) bc of rendaku changing the "hi" to "bi".

And then there are dates like 11/11 which represent four Pocky sticks for Pocky Day and (I could be getting this exact number wrong? but,) I think 8/8 is Megane Day? bc the 8 is like glasses sideways? 😂
So there's that cute way of making Days as well

I love how they use numbers for like, character days or abbreviating something, like his name here.

It's fun figuring out why a Day is what it is.
Like Bunny Day is 8/2 because "ha(chi)" with rendaku makes "ba" and then plus "ni" = bunny 😄

Another onyomi reading for 9 is ku, so it can be straight up read as sanku instead of sankyu

Didn't swap out all of the letter keycaps because they'd add a bit of a click to the beginning of the key press and I was going for a thock. Sis took my old keyboard and put them on it and it looks so good and has such a nice clicky sound and feel. I never knew I'd like such a crisp clicky keyboard
