Amidst a widening rift among Tigray's political leaders, analysts warn a full-blown regional war is possible. A conflict with neighboring Eritrea, for one, seems imminent.

Four years ago, thousands of civilians were massacred in #Axum, #Tigray, by Eritrean forces. Amnesty and HRW called it a war crime. Today, people in Axum remember the massacre and call for justice. #Tigray #AxumMassacre

To better comprehend sexual violence with genocidal intent, watch this new @artefr.bsky.social doc, released in time for The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
An estimated 100k Tigrayan women suffered sexual violence at the hands of the Ethiopian & Eritrean armies.
Background: From 2020-2022, the armies of the Ethiopian and Eritrean government carried out a genocide targeting members of Ethiopia's Tigray ethnic group, with over half a million perishing as a result of massacres, but primarily a brutal humanitarian siege that blocked food & medicine deliveries.

SOUTH AFRICA Apartheid-era cops deny killing activist Three former apartheid-era police officers have denied participating in the 1987 murder of South African student activist Caiphus Nyoka. Appearing in a Johannesburg court on Tuesday, Pieter Stander, Leon van den Berg and Abram Engelbrecht pleaded not guilty to the charges of murder. Another former officer, Johan Marais, pleaded guilty and was convicted last week. Nyoka, 23, was a member of the Congress of South African Students. He was shot dead on 24 August 1987 in his parents’house in Daveyton. In his guilty plea last week, Marais directly implicated the other Security Branch officers, saying he was instructed “to take the deceased out”, News24 reported.
Justice delayed but not denied.
Four apartheid era police officers have been put on trial in South Africa, for the 1987 murder of student activist Caiphus Nyoka. One has already pled guilty, and testified that the others were complicit as well.
