By Yuri Norstein, one of the greatest figures in animation history.. He
1. Condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
2. Has been working for over forty years on a film of Gogol's The Overcoat, a pretty Gogolian venture itself.

Weirdly skewed priorities on the part of those responsible.

Well, this does raise *a lot* more questions about both the Cabinet Office's 'inquiry' into Labour Together and now Starmer's ethic advisor's investigation into Josh Simons

Sports Minister Patrick O'Donovan believes League of Ireland funding should suffer because of the damage caused by Drogheda hooligans in Dundalk.
He also said that X bears no responsibility for people using its Grok technology to create illegal pornography.

Galway councillor claims RSA messaging amounts to β€˜victim blaming’ – β€˜Children are not killed because of a lack of high-vis vests’ A Galway councillor has called for a β€œno confidence” vote and a major overhaul of the Road Safety Authority (RSA), claiming its education campaigns place responsibility on vulnerable road users rather...

7 deaths on our roads over the weekend including a 16 y/o girl walking her dog.

Why the obsession over hi-vis? Why the reduction in active travel funding?
Where are the 30km/h zones?
Where are the red light cameras?
Why no enforcement?
Why aren't intelligent speed systems default on new cars?

Labour's absolute insouciance about angering Greens voters by using smear tactics contrasts with the kid-glove approach towards Reform admitted here.
The logical conclusion is that Labour see the latter as representing a more legitimate political viewpoint than the former.
Curiouser and curiouser.

Historic moment of Cork-Kerry detente.
Reflects the football relationship between the two counties, Kerry out front collecting the trophy, Cork looking on.

Amen to that. Under-rated harrowing journey to the end of the country and western night. Came across it thanks to a book Produced and Abandoned (1990) where leading American film recommended movies they felt had gone unfairly under the radar. A great primer if you can find it.

Happy birthday Rotters Club. The years have been kind to you.
Terrific book from someone who wrote a fair few of them. A one man Canterbury Scene of the modern novel.
He even made me think Prog might have its good points(though I'll never admit that publicly.)

A brilliant piece which, like all the best literary criticism, makes you want to go back and reread the books from the new perspective you've been granted.

This is a powerful moment that, leaving ideology out of it, would make great television.
He doesn't incite hatred, the message is one of love.
But the BBC, which lets Reform routinely slur various communities, apparently feels, "Free Palestine," ( a common political slogan) is unacceptable.
Why?

The bookies (William Hill) have the Greens at 1/2, Reform at 15/8 and Labour at 9/1. Which means Labour have no chance.
If this smear campaign works, the only beneficiaries will be Reform. The smears tell you who Labour regard as their enemies and what they'll regard as a victory.

Last laugh stories are to some memoirs what the long instrumental solo is to prog rock songs. Everything else is just padding to set them up.

The book was overshadowed by the John O'Farrell Things Can Only Get Better which was about the mainstream end of British left-wing politics. O'Farrell's book is very good but Steel's is much better crack. He has a great knack for being able to laugh at himself.
