it has been playing continuously here in Brasil since it came out in early November. Local screenings had pootled down to one a day near me but have bumped back up since the Oscar noms. That's how it should be for all films, obviously.

Anyway, if you're looking for a film starring a rakish sex symbol of his era as a protagonist who treats everyone like shit might I recommend Zika Pavlovic's When I'm Dead and Pale, which is also only 80 minutes long.

Marty Supreme: a very well-made bad film. Surprised that so few are talking about the frankly shoddy racial politics of this one too.

I think I can say with 100% certainty that Yugoslavia in the 60s was a more free and 'democratic' (a word with a slippery meaning at best of times) society than the UK in the past ten years. For one, you wouldn't go to jail for expressing support for Palestine.

That afternoon I went alone, one of I think 5 in the cinema. I'd had a single can of Red Stripe at the Moon beforehand, and I needed to pee about 45 minutes in but held it for the whole film I was so entranced. One of my all-time favourite cinema experiences. Thank you Bela.
