The box art for the European release of Game & Watch Gallery 3. The characters all look just off model enough to be vaguely unsettling. Donkey Kong Junior holds a key with his wrist, implying some sort of adhesive. The Mario brothers stare at each other as if to say “Since we flavored this cake with almonds, no one will taste the arsenic!”. Humans look at this and get feelings of unease, wondering what horrors have taken place to fit five games in one.

I have no idea why the European box art for Game & Watch Gallery 3 looks like it does. It’s as if the official art emerged from the uncanny valley.

I saw these once, and tried to get my mom to buy me one. As an adult, I get why she said no, but I’ve also never been able to stop trying to imagine what they were like.

Second most missed is Super Mario 35. Man, did I love Super Mario 35.

Also, having just returned from
Magfest with my old 3DS in tow, I can safely say that StreetPass is my most missed of all the discontinued Nintendo software. I managed a few hundred over the past few days!

I hadn’t been to Magfest since 2020, and I’m glad I attended this year. Seeing friends you haven’t seen in person in forever and having them exclaim excitement while hugging before you can even react is a great feeling. I’ve had the fortune of meeting some really great people.

I am so tired of waking up to history.

After revisiting Wings of Wor/Gynoug, it’s safe to say that between this and Cho Aniki, Masaya really had the “Vehicle designed for war but with a human face grafted on” art style down to a science.

Phil Hartman is amazing at playing a creep (compliment), but when he says you should marinade ahi tuna in Italian salad dressing, he’s being a bit too irredeemable.

Having odd tastes and buying things on a ten year delay is the cause of 90% of any value my collection has.

So I can’t blame you, because looking up the MM now I can tell that I had to improvise more than I remembered. It’s a very truncated version of the Samsho II logo with the control scheme box beneath it. Given the chance, I’d be far more psyched to come across a cab with Stakes Winner.

Well done getting Mr. Do! I’ll say the one on the left is a series that’s equally as prolific as Metal Slug. PicoCAD has a somewhat limited color palette, which adds to the challenge overall. I should really revisit it.

The first two are a bit harder to parse to say the least. Number one is a mini marquee that’s mostly just the game’s logos, and is for one of the system’s most popular titles. Number two is a somewhat obscure title, and was probably too detailed for the scale, so it’s not as universally recognized.

Tail of the Sun just released on Steam, and while it doesn’t have an English language option yet, this gives me hope that we may be nearing a rerelease of No One Can Stop Mr Domino!.

Amazing! This is like discovering that Theda Bara’s filmography is no longer lost.

Not sure if you’ve seen it (or if it would help), but Chunking Express became one of my favorite WKW films when I watched it after a similar experience. Far less emotionally taxing, and absolutely fantastic.

It’s also worth noting how Majong Cop Ryu has some of the best box art on the Megadrive. Robocop should be in more Mahjong games.
