Automotive designer Emeline King (born 1957) became the first Black Woman Automotive Designer for Ford Motor Company. Her most notable work is the creation and interior design of the 1994 Mustang.

In 1913, 11-year-old Sarah Rector became the richest Black child in America after the discovery of the oil rich land she and her family inherited under the Treaty of 1866, due to their birthright as Black descendants of Creek Indians born before the American Civil War.

In 1829, former slave Priscilla "Mother" Baltimore guided 11 families of free and fugitive Black Americans and established America’s first all black town, Brooklyn, Illinois.

Brooklyn is the only known 19th century all black town that still survives as a community.

Dubbed “The Angel of The Rockies,” former slave, community philanthropist, abolitionist, and entrepreneur, Aunt Clara Brown was the first Black settler in Colorado.

She also helped other formerly enslaved people to settle during the Colorado Gold Rush.

Businesswoman, hair care entrepreneur, philanthropist, educator, and activist Majorie Stewart Joyner was the first African-American woman to create and patent a permanent hair-wave machine.

Mother of Hip Hop, Sylvia Robinson was the first Black Woman to own a record label.

As the founder and CEO of Sugar Hill Records, she produced the first rap singles, Rapper’s Delight, by The Sugar Hill Gang (1979) and The Message by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (1982).
