Coercive Care: Investigating sickle cell, pregnancy, and sterilization A yearlong STAT investigation about people with sickle cell disease who felt pressured into unwanted sterilizations.

STAT's Eric Boodman talked to 50 (fifty!) women with #sicklecell for this series on how for decades, doctors have pushed sickle cell patients to sterilization.

Though the health concerns are real, they're mixed with echoes of eugenics, racism, & other injustices.

If it's automatic and doesn't block your production it might be something to ignore. I do appreciate the care, but yeah, letting machines try to figure out people isn't going to work well.
If you have a reporting sniper, that's a different issue, of course.

I'll admit that I have a hard time wrapping my brain around the new model for drugs that doesn't work hard to keep people hooked on drugs, but just kills them. Surge in demand leads to disposable life. Dreadful.

Dragon’s Blood: Humanity, Consent, and Connectedness Humans care very much about their own blood and immediately consider consent when it comes to taking blood. But there's a lot of other blood out there, and who we are is in part the much darker story ...

Not nearly all of the fluid we could call blood on this planet is human. How we relate to the other kinds of blood tells a darker tale of how we have come to define our place in the world.
