We are training undergrads (18-22) to digitize vcr tapes, cassettes, and vinyl. We introduce phrases like "rewind" into their vocab and made diagrams of what a tape looks like from 6 angles. And we get questions like "how do I rewind a record" which is understandable but turns my bones to dust.

They don't *need* AI to make these decisions. But they *want* AI to make these decisions. Because the tech gives them plausible deniability--something to blame (other than themselves) when things go wrong.

Social media created this nonsense idea that not exposing yourself to hatred is isolationist. Choosing to not spend your free time with bigots isn’t living in a bubble. I don’t need to know what’s going on at X. I won’t be smarter or more knowledgeable or empathic by being there. Neither will you.

Holy shit I was right and I don't like that I was right. This is really not good at all. They wanted to let fully autonomous drones use their AI here. Oh my god that's uhhh. Hm.

One of my more problematic takes is that - because of the digital age - a lot of people have grown up never having to potentially catch hands for talking reckless in another person's face. And therefore feel perfectly fine about just saying the most deranged stuff about people on these apps.
