yeah! I do think at a certain point, runbacks just become artificial difficulty, especially when you've already mastered them and so you're really just wasting your time

but, in fairness to Team Cherry, the Seath runback (that requires you to platform on invisible footpaths while avoiding enemies and if you fuck up you instantly die??) is pretty hard to top

not even playing rn I'm just thinking about it more. The thing is that even the worst Soulsborne runbacks, with platforming (Martyr Logarius comes to mind) are usually just tedious and can be done mostly on autopilot. The Groal runback requires too much sheer concentration & in this essay I will

pie chart titled silksong the whole thing just says "amazing, no notes" except there's one tiny sliver creeping in labelled "how about that groal runback eh?"

Lord alive, they want fictional characters in fictional sexual situations to model consent for literal adults like a patronizing early 2020’s sitcom where the point of the writing is to convey that the writer’s been to therapy at some point

Birdhouse is seriously great and the owner, Abby, is extremely dedicated to making it a welcoming experience for queer youth while holding firm on important issues. She has something enthusiastic to say about every book on the shelf. Also you will be greeted by a tiny and very friendly dog

the boys are hanging out!! 😍🐎⚔️🦎 If you're in Austin you can pick up both series at local queer indie favorite Birdhouse Books~ Also check out Triple Strike for an super fun M/M novel with lovely illustrations and a romance that develops during the main adventure (which is my favorite!)

collage with a portrait of Ursa. A scroll reads: An eccentric girl, whose very few friends amongst her peers have fallen dead to illness. She experiences strange visions before disaster, and is therefore rumored to be either cursed or a witch. Despite this, she remains good-humored! She enjoys collecting things, shirking her duties, and takes some joy in frightening the other ladies. She naturally attracts attention, but lately she senses more eyes on her than usual...

collage with a portrait of Genevieve. A scroll reads: The queen bee of the ladies, she was the picture of virtue and diligence. Admired by her peers and treasured by her superiors, no other girl had more love than she. However, after falling to a sleeping curse two years ago, her friends have all abandoned her for fear of it being spread… The only woman in the castle who will go near her is Ursa, who tenderly cares for her. But while her body sleeps, her spirit is awake, with its own motives… and when she wakes, the ladies might find that she is not quite the girl they thought she was.

I love going to cons just to mill about and listen in on panels, especially the kind where a knowledgeable person tells you all about a subject close to their heart

I'm always sad to miss another year of SPX but I had a great time at local SFF convention Armadillo Con here in Austin! (the 4-H horse book was a freebie from a series of excellent horse primer panels with @saraamueller.bsky.social !)

I was really impressed with how he wrote the young adult characters in Sabriel, I can't wait to read the others! (and lol I am intrigued by this next 'Tim Curry as a mysterious talking animal' role 😆)

it's the "wow cool robot!" meme but dialed up to an uncanny degree. Like congrats on being the guy being critiqued in the episode and not even realizing it I guess

watching black mirror for the first time and it's a pretty horrifying experience. not bc of the episodes themselves but bc I am exposed to commenters online with no media literacy coming up with takeaways like "abuse/torture is justified if the other party is guilty of something"

Update: we just received a statement from Macmillan/Tor taking full responsibility for failing to register copyright, promising to make us whole and pay us any settlement money we lost out on due to that error, and promising to find & correct the lapses that caused this.

Every pub should do this.

I am SO tickled that you led with Curse of Chalion because that was one of my very favorite reads just last year, I adored it! thank you soo much for these, some of these were on my radar but haven't picked up yet! Putting them on my list immediately, very excited to check them out!

non-audio recs also welcome, but most of my eyeball-reading time/energy is devoted to Realm of the Elderlings these days lol. I WILL finish those suckers, they are so good

recently I really adored Lies of Locke Lamora and the First Law trilogy. Also enjoyed Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by VE Schwab. Always looking for recs of any sort!! honestly I might just reach for another KJ Charles out of habit, she never misses

hello sunday nighttime gang... it's time to ask again for audiobook recs...! looking for a shorter read before I tackle the next gentleman bastards book. something like Piranesi would be perfect. I don't really vibe with anything labelled 'cozy' (no hate i just want books to fuck me up a lil)
