Heeeyy, we can finally talk about this! So, I would like to co-sign everything in this open letter. I would also like to tell everyone about a specific grievance that @femonologue.bsky.social and I have with Xellette after the mishandling of our kickstarter. Screencap/receipts in🧵 to follow!

A lot of us have actually made a webcomic ring called Chimera Comics after we left hiveworks: chimeracomics.org

This isn't the full list as some artists want their hands completely washed of the situation, but this is a start!

Weird to be commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Am Rev while living under a government that has a) sent armed troops to occupy cities perceived to be too rebellious, b) rendered largely irrelevant the representative branch of government, and c) claimed imperial right to rule other countries.

This is simply not technically possible. You cannot generate enough writing in-house to train an LLM. You cannot generate enough art in-house to train a GAN. People who think they have a model "trained on our own material" are using a base model of mass-scraped data, unknowingly or disingenuously.

anyway I've been editing and writing and rewriting and making drastic cuts to fahah vol 3 for the last year and if it fails to be good at least it'll be a beautiful human failure lol

yeah i see your generative slopmachine can occasionally string words together in a way that might be construed as "technically English" but can it expend two books' worth of effort on half of one book making things come together in a narratively but also emotionally satisfying way. while CRYING

In case you need a reminder: there is no amount of capitulating to technocratic chicanery that will fix publishing. It has already made things worse and will continue to make things worse for everyone involved.

Orgs like PW should have learned this lesson eons ago but today's as good as day as any.
