The presence of 'A Walk Across The Rooftops' by The Blue Nile haunts 'Songs From The Big Chair' and it's impossible for me not to hear it's lush influence (evidently Curt Smith was in it's thrall.) The attention detail, the intricate arrangements, the layered hooks...

People talk about this stuff in terms of how much it'll suck for gaming and I hate to inform you how many MRI machines, X-Rays, all sorts of other vital machinery are just a Windows IoT Edition PC in a beige plastic box with a big magnet/accelerator/whatever attached.

To be fair, I love all three of those albums (and their maligned synthpop period releases): but let's be frank. It took Talk Talk breaking up & Mark Hollis retiring from the public/dying in 2019 to where the cultural zeitgeist seemed to lean in their favor critically.

"Itโs About Time We Brought Art In, Innit?" Talk Talk's The Colour Of Spring at 40 | The Quietus
Wyndham Wallace pinpoints the moment Talk Talk emerged from their synth pop chrysalis, on third album The Colour Of Spring.
The same people who cast laurels of praise for 'Spirit Of Eden' & 'Laughing Stock' fail to take into account in their revisions that without 'The Colour Of Spring', none of the aforementioned would have been committed to tape.
Many happy returns.

Great late night driving tune. Almost seems like it was designed from the ground up for that purpose.

I once again feel compelled to remind folks that you feel science news/new scientific developments are bad and destructive because you are not reading science news: You are reading techbro press releases, regurgitated uncritically by outlets that long ago fired all their science/tech beat reporters.

Nazis loved shallow escapism far more than direct propaganda (the vast majority of films made under the nazis were fluffy โmountain filmsโ and subtextually propagandistic historical epics), which makes the popularity of generic โhopepunkโ a lot less punk and more like manufactured consent

Hmm. Supposed to write up stuff and plan things and my brain is all "Nope. Nuh-uh. Try again later." Stupid soft cathedral of goo stuck in a meat robot.

I was casually weighing choices regarding finding a proper home for my long threatened 'review/cultural musings' blog of sorts, and Substack was an option though I didn't commit right away...
About that..Yeah, think a cobwebby Blogspot or WordPress page would be a morally reasonable decision.

There's an ironic misreading of David Cronenberg's later films that often point out that they lack the 'ooey-gooey' visceral body horror that initially put him on the map but then again: those same early films are accused of having heady themes that get in the way of the expected corporeal ick.

I suppose this could officially count as an inaugural post on this platform. So might as well have it be something music related. Though I'm probably preaching to my comically small contact list (who've heard the debut release or seen Collector Of Dust live.)
