And a quick word on the "None of us are against 20mph around schools..." line. As somebody said recently: People don't live at school. If we only protect streets near schools, how are kids supposed to reach those streets?

Wales’s 20mph speed limit has cut road deaths. Why is there still even a debate? Research suggests the scheme may be more popular than thought, with consultations dominated by a loud minority

Man, 91, pleads guilty to causing death by careless driving after car hits crowd A woman died of her injuries the day after the crash which also left two others seriously injured

He could be back behind the wheel in three years. I have no idea what has to happen for someone to be banned from driving www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midland...

Council bins supremo runs off to avoid strike questions amid 'ransom' claims Cllr Majid Mahmood didn't want to provide a political view on the indefinite bin strike blighting the city

We could write stories like this all the time. There has been a rising wall of silence around seismic local issues such as the Perry Barr mega cost and the bins you’re paying for which aren’t being collected. Please read - shows what we are up against www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midland...

Protest and resign demands live as Birmingham City Council sets crushing Budget A protest by bin workers and angry families will kick off a day of drama at Birmingham Council House

In a country that perpetually lets young people down - children are much the poorest age group - Birmingham lets them down more than most. The city needs to be a voice for young people, who are totally voiceless and also not to blame for the mess they are paying for.

Dad who spent £6k on two Black Sabbath tickets says they're 'beyond priceless' Alex Jones, 46, bought two £2,932.50 tickets so he could share a 'father-daughter bonding' moment with Gwen, 17

Our Black Sabbath gig coverage, headed up by @bozzers.bsky.social is an advert for regional journalism. It shows the merit of having someone who cares writing about something. And people have noticed - we've had more than a million people read the stories www.birminghammail.co.uk/whats-on/wha...

The lack of progress on LGBT issues across the course of my life is almost as shocking as it is depressing. Football fans are an extreme, but we’re miles away and stood still.

The way "alright bab" gets used as a marketing term for people in Birmingham might be what cultural appropriation feels like. Certainly, it grinds my gears - people basically say it to try and appear like other people who never say it.

Birmingham Budget 'double whammy' of cuts and tax rises revealed The cuts planned by Birmingham City Council for the year ahead are revealed

This is a useful article to give a broad sense of where we are at as Birmingham taxpayers. It’s written sensibly - but the subject matter is extreme. You’re paying a lot more and a growing number who really need help are being turned away. www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midland...

This is leading our site this morning. We don't talk enough about child poverty - deprivation in urban areas like Birmingham is a crisis. Children are the poorest constituents and the ones worst impacted by the perpetual economic decline. www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midland...

Many of the old people cheering Trump for pulling out of the Paris Accord don't look like they'll live too long - they might never have to pay for that decision.
They just shortened their kids lives though, and drastically impacted their grandchildren.
