I picked up this trick from the team at Quantic Foundry and have used it every time I send out a web form for playtesters: use a text box every time you ask for pronouns/gender. The bad actors can’t help but out themselves.

“Yes/No” checkboxes are a very good plan B though 😂

I’ve talked to a lot of people this week that really need to hear this game-making advice:

If you don’t understand how a certain game has sold so well, it means that game (or product) has a lesson to teach you.

You won’t be able to learn that lesson unless you’re willing to reinvent what you know.

A big part of why I want to see more diversity in game design—and really in any creative field—is because different people create differently.

The more new ideas exist in a space, the more I can absorb and evolve my own craft.

Games were worse when almost all the people making them looked like me.

A Place For All My Books was definitely the smoothest project I've ever worked on. It went from concept to contract in 5 months, then from contract to launch in less than a year.

It’s good to kill your albatrosses, right…? 😅

My biggest albatross was my very first design—the one that spurred me to even start making games in the first place. It was an IP game that I worked on for YEARS before realizing that was silly.

(I ended up revisiting it a few years back, and signed a contract for it WITH the IP last year 🥲🥲🥲)
