First they came for the immigrants, and I spoke out, because I’ve read the damn poem before and I know how it ends.

That’s so disappointing. Fool me once and only once. Hope you win that fight!

My local gov’t has been very reflective and pushes transparency. I work for the State, so slightly less β€œlocal.” It’s a shame you think we are all deluding ourselves and a bit insulting. But that’s ok. We don’t have to agree.

Gotcha. We are agreed on that.

If you can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it! I haven’t engaged with L4GG since Biden gave us a break from absolute daily chaos and am off all social media except this, so I’m quite out of the loop. :/

This is highly dependent on the system of local gov’t and the official’s position.

I am all for applying pressure where necessary and always holding people accountable. Simultaneously, I believe it’s well-worth saying β€œthank you” when officials do a good job and could be what helps us get what we want in the future.

Thank you for everything you’ve been doing since the first DJT admin! Something I’ve been wondering, and failing to solve: thousands of lawyers like me cannot litigate anything outside of our government jobs due to conflict rules. Ideas about other ways we can be useful would be awesome!

Oof. Bad, bad take. Local gov’t officials are often grossly underpaid and do the work because they care about their communities. Thanking them when they do a good job is part of the motivation to keep going despite the lack of financial incentives.
