In 2010, our orgs came together to provide energy efficiency in Charlottesville, expanding out to the county 5 years later. The work continues to this day!

#ThrowbackThursday In 1974, our team first took form... as CHIP! AHIP Logo with the A crossed out, and a C slotted in Originally based purely in Charlottesville, in 1976 CHIP fused with its new sister org, AHIP, to further our repair reach!

While AHIP formed in 1976, just two years prior came the organization's original sister group, CHIP! Originally made purely with the city in mind, our founders came to realize that county need was just as great. Thus, AHIP was born, and fused with its predecessor to cover city and county alike 😊

AHIP Logo #Throwback Thursday This week, our throwback focuses on our clients, and serves to highlight their brighter present! Before images of the client home, one of the exterior with a front door only accessible via a wooden extension you have to step up onto. The second image is of the home's attic, showing the interior structure of the roof. Last year, this client's home was beset with accessibility impairments, roof instability, and energy leaks aplenty After images of the client's home, the first showing a newly-installed ramp on the front door to make it more accessible, while the second shows collar ties having been installed in the attic to protect the roof from degradation. Now the roof is supported, ramps are installed, windows have been modernized, and there's still more to come!

This #ThrowbackThursday is shining a spotlight on how far one of our clients' homes have progressed in the program! Last year, this home was faced with an unstable roof, a lack of accessibility, and energy leakage. Now, they've got a new ramp & windows, updated roofing, and plenty more to come!

3 Ways to Keep Your Home Energy-Efficient Image of AHIP worker in insulation gear Inspect your Insulation! Heat rises, and the last thing you want is for it to rise up through the ceiling in the middle of winter. EnergyStar recommends that your attic have at least 10 inches of insulation in place for optimal heat preservation! Check for Cracks! Cracks throughout one’s home account for more than a third of all energy loss in a given year, so regular inspections are crucial. Organizations like our friends at LEAP are happy to provide inspections at little to no cost for local households! These visits can save you a lot of headache trying to find the offending areas on your own, and can point you to effective remedies.

This #ThrowbackThursday brings us back to our Block-by-Block program of the 2010s, where we conducted repairs on a neighborhood basis, rather than targeted addresses. In 2015, this program got statewide recognition for its work in the 10th & Page neighborhood, setting a standard we still maintain 😊

This week's #ThrowbackThursday brings us full circle, as 1998 saw us reach the home we know and love to this day, Berkmar Drive! Since then, this office has been our rock in ever-shifting times, and we're grateful to have found it ❤️ Here's to another 27 years, and more beyond!

This #ThrowbackThursday we're looking back at old homes of ours, specifically Silk Mill! After operating out of the old Jailer's House in Court Square for 14 years, our team moved to a small office in Silk Mill in 1995; since then we moved on to Berkmar, but appreciated our time there all the same!

Fall is creeping in, and in order to protect against the accompanying weather some of our recent outdoor installs need protective stain! Luckily our friends at Tiger accompanied us in protecting this homeowner's new deck against the elements 😊
