The entrance to a single story beige brick building. To the left of the glass doors is a Black Lives Matter flag (and a bush that needs trimmed) to the right a progress pride flag which hangs vertically and is nearly the full hight of the tallest segment of the building. Along the walkway are many other small pride flags.
I work in DC, basically at the other end of 16th St from the White House.
Today, we dedicated this gigantic new Pride flag.

Of course, this is less about belief or not than it is about specific flavors of high control religion. And still.

12.02.2025 19:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A digital graphic features a screenshot from UU World, the magazine of the Unitarian Universalist Association. At the top, the UU World logo appears in blue text. Below it, the headline in bold black font reads: "UUA, Other Religious Groups Sue Trump Administration to Halt Immigration Arrests at Houses of Worship." A subheading in smaller black text states: "The Trump policy allowing raids in houses of worship violates the First Amendment, the lawsuit argues." The byline attributes the article to Elaine McArdle and is dated 2/11/2025. Below the text, there is an illustration with a stylized American flag background. The left side of the flag is blue with white, hand-drawn stars, while the right side features red and white stripes. In the foreground, there is a black and white sketch of a group of people walking in a line, including adults and children, carrying backpacks and holding hands as they move forward. At the bottom of the image, a black rectangular banner with white bold text reads: "Read more at http://bit.ly/uuworld-immigration."
The UUA proudly joins a multifaith coalition & the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy & Protection in opposition to the federal government's rescission of ICEβs sensitive locations policy, which violates the 1st Amendment & the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. And there it is: Russell Vought is confirmed.
I wrote a long profile of him, his worldview, his political project: Heβs one of the architects of Project 2025, an avowed Christian nationalist, and a radical ideologue of the βpost-constitutionalβ Right.
He is at war with pluralistic democracy.

The quote, in white sans-serif text, reads: βIn a world of scarcity, interconnection and mutual aid become critical for survival. So say the lichens.β Above the quote, there is a white Unitarian Universalist chalice symbol, flanked by two thin horizontal lines. Below the quote, in smaller white text, it says: βfrom Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer.β The bottom of the graphic features the website βUUA.ORG β in white uppercase letters, with a subtle arrow pointing to the right. A digital graphic features a question in white sans-serif text: βWhere do you see reciprocity at work in your own life? In your congregation and community?β The background is a close-up photograph of green lichen growing on a surface, slightly blurred. Above the question, there is a white Unitarian Universalist chalice symbol, flanked by two thin horizontal lines. Robin Wall Kimmerer, in her book "Braiding Sweetgrass," asks us to learn from lichens: when resources are scarce, they turn to each other to survive. In hard times, how do you choose connection? Where do you see reciprocity in your life?

Dear Mr. Dodaro, We write to ask that the Government Accountability Office (GAO) conduct an investigation of reports indicating that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent granted Elon Musk and other βDepartment of Government Efficiencyβ employees unprecedented access to the federal governmentβs payment systems on January 31, 2025.1 These reports are deeply troubling. These critical systems process trillions of dollars of transactions each year and contain sensitive personal and financial information for tens of millions of Americans.2 These systems ensure that Social Security checks, tax refunds, and Medicare benefits are paid on time and are essential to preventing a default on federal debt.3 GAO must investigate and determine who was granted access to these systems, why and how this access was granted, and the implications for the nationβs economic and national security.
Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ron Wyden sent a letter to Gene Dodaro, asking the GAO to conduct an investigation into reports the Treasury Secretary granted "Elon Musk and other 'Department of Government Efficiency' employees unprecedented access to the federal governmentβs payment systems."
