Today I wrote 50+ pages, maybe 1 of which might get used, and you know what? I’m actually pretty okay with that. It is genuinely lovely getting to work on stuff you like. It takes a whole lot of pressure off your shoulders.
Thanks to @iheartfargo.bsky.social this book has been glued to my brain for the last 2 months.
Damages to date,
10-15 pages on setting, 15 pages of hack notes plus a huge Xls.
Working on Twilight : 2,100, NYC climate dystopia.
It’s not that I didn’t understand how horrible basic facts of life in the US are. You can’t help but understand that if you’re at all aware. But damn if explaining it to folks who aren’t from there and haven’t spent much time there doesn’t crystallize things.
With PAXU this weekend, I once again come to you with a desperate plea:
Just go to whatever pizza place is nearest to you.
You do not need to go to Cheesesteak Vegas.
You do not need to wait in line outside at Angelos.
Any pizza place will serve you a perfectly serviceable cheesesteak.
I beg you.
Like every fiber of my being was ready for it to be a whole issue and multiple people to have to get involved. They just looked at me like they might cry, IMMEDIATELY shut up, and stayed silent and looking forward attentively until the end.
I’m used to kids being some of toughest shits you’ll ever run into. Mean, sharp, not to be fucked with in groups. Not scary (well sometimes), but they don’t play around. So when I told three teenagers in a Stockholm theatre “Yo shut the FUCK up” tonight, I was not expecting them to look like this.
Things I need to buy:

How have we not yet gotten a Swedish game called Juleskum? It’s perfect. It’s right there and it’s perfect.
There are days I wake up worried that I’m too much of an art nerd, too hoity-toity in my preferences, for my chosen field. But then I have coffee and remember I’m a New Yorker and no, it is the children who are wrong. Time to keep plugging away at raising the bar.
Yup!
Of course this dope ass book sale is happening a few days AFTER I leave New York
Pigeon what’re you doing here this isn’t New York go home
Yup!!
Landed in Sweden. New apartment is lovely, as is the new neighborhood. However, no logical place to set up my PC. The home planning begins!
Ah crap that’s right! You’d told me you were in Stockholm. I spaced, my bad. But yes I’ll absolutely see ya at Gothcon :)
Yup! Well I know her broadly from idiomdrottning but yeah that piece gets a lot of air time.
Ooooh good to know!
Some!! But it’s a job move. Joining the World of Darkness team. Still, it’ll be good to be near folks like @nohr.se and I’ve got a list of friends of friends I’ll need to look up.
Actually been in NYC the past few years!! But now to Stockholm :)
I may finally be “ready” to move. Practically. Mentally who knows. Whoever is next to me on the plane is in for a WILD ride.
Yeah but it’s the hope that kills you
I’m sorry, Toronto. This is insanely rough. As a Mets fan, you have my sympathy.
I mean I’d like to make money or even just break even. I thought all he managed was to sell a dollar for 50¢
You reach a point in packing and repacking where you look at every single object you own with disdain, and multiple times throughout my life this moment has occurred just past the point of realistically setting up a donation. It feels like a damn trap.
Disassembling a PC and packing the parts for travel is really fun because even when you think you’ve done everything right you have NO idea what may have broken until you arrive and set it back up
Haha thanks, both of those and also work on World of Darkness
Moving, Sweden
Note to self: the next time I’m moving for any reason, remember that it is better to ship early and live without things than ship “on time” and encounter issues. I suppose also a note to anyone else considering relocation.
I agree!! Especially the D&D film. I was sad it didn’t make enough money both because I would’ve enjoyed a sequel and because it’s rare that kind of translation comes off so well. I was rooting for it to be recognized as a success among non-gamers. That’s what’s really needed for future licensing.
