Here's where the shift chart can help a little bit. Most of Fantilli's bad shifts were with the game more or less out of reach but still some concerning "up 2" shifts alongside Monahan.

Coyle with one particularly huge and particularly bad shift.

The matchups don't look pretty. Fantilli and the 3rd pair got destroyed off the rush. Werenski and Mateychuk didn't look great but not altogether that much happened.

Coyle line clearly the defining story with a ton of rush offense.

When we get down to 5v5, it gets a bit ugly. Most of Toronto's huge chances came from net-front and scrambly offense, Tavares the exception here.

Coyle, Marchenko, Voronkov all with fantastic off-pass creation.

Sillinger and Coyle created like crazy. Big chances, along with Voronkov, Marchenko and Chinakhov.

Otherwise, tons of huge creation from all over Toronto, especially from Cowan and Matthews.

Blue Jackets more or less rolled lines, including Denton Mateychuk as the highest TOI player. Auston Matthews was the most deployed player by Toronto, for good reason.

One of those real challenging games to evaluate from a statistical perspective.

CBJ goals went in and the lead was drastic quite quickly. TOR, eventually, put up some huge chances and got to a ton of rebounds.

Blue Jackets were lethal on counters

Return of the shift chart. Coyle struggled to protect the lead but Monahan was great. Fantilli and Monahan each gave up single big shifts.

Pretty outrageous high even minutes from Zach Werenski.

Monahan and Coyle got forechecked, not want you want to see out of some veteran lines. Fantilli's line, however, created a ton of danger but were undone by a single big chance.

2 and 5 πŸ‘€

5v5 makes the Blue Jackets look like the better team in open play courtesy of Marchenko and Voronkov.

I'm no rocket scientist but I'd maybe try to find Josh Doan more minutes. Tage was ripping pucks all night.

Perhaps the first chart without someone breaking the scale. Marchenko still a huge performance and a ton of danger from Wood.

Big bars are pretty much all tips/rebounds except for that last sort-of OT winner from Werenski to Wood. Brilliant pass by Z

Buffalo with a clear top forward unit and very distributed "bottom 9" and also defense group. It make sense, they looked really solid.

Werenski a million minutes but also Fantilli leading in all situations.

The Blue Jackets got outrebounded but got the better chance volume.

You might be saying "wait that says 2 BUF goals", that's just because McLeod's goal has been eclipsed by the white borders. Very low probability to be a goal

Provorov gave up some rush chances but found some too. Werenski and Mateychuk with off-chart offense while they were on the ice.

Pay special attention to that second lines creation variety. It's a very very versatile line and Fantilli goes all ways πŸ˜‰

Great 5v5 work from Jenner-Fantilli-KJ.

Shoutout Chinakhov doing the most with the least. Super shoutout Denton Mateychuk for bringing some real heat.

Monahan has struggled this year but the team looks like they're figuring it out and he looked very good this game. Is the rust off or is that what just playing the Pens is going to look like these days?

Voronkov with 2 goals and massive danger generation.

Dean still doesn't like Chinakhov but this time it was Fantilli and Jenner leading 5v5 TOI.

Werenski with 30 minutes on the second of a back to back is nasty work. Literal horse.

Big time 5v5 dominance from CBJ. Lots of rush counter but some good chances from a variety of looks.

CBJ got the better in OT (odd-situations).

Jenner and Sillinger need to stop taking penalties and the PK is still struggling.

Feeling much better now than when all my armchair GMing had me looking like this and concluding that Josh Doan was the guy CBJ needed to get

Looks like Provorov and Severson might be actually back. They managed the puck poorly and it was chaos in their minutes.

Werenski and Mateychuk look fantastic in chance share.

Drilling down a bit, Yegor Chinakhov's contributions in almost no ice time stand out. He's making his case.
Otherwise, a ton of distortion from rebound chances but some big high danger looks outside of those for CBJ.

Ryan Leonard also looked pretty good.

Tons of chances and big rebounds means a hard to read graph!

Massive numbers from Kirill Marchenko, Charlie Coyle (who had a huge rebound sequence that's distorting it) and Yegor Chinakhov.

From Caps, Wilson, Strome, McMichael on the PP. Lapierre at 5v5.

Not too much to see from the TOI graphs but important to note that the Special Teams volume significantly distorts the 5v5 ice time.

Importantly, it means that Mathieu Olivier was the CBJ leader at 5v5.

A tight game featuring a ton of huge CBJ rush chances marred by a poorly timed penalty and excellent opportunistic scoring from Washington.

Shift chart again, still a WIP. Monahan and Marhcenko didn't do well up 2 goals but top-line didn't do well only up 1, perhaps the early 2nd there then.

Fantilli line had a couple of big shift losses but otherwise was consistently good.

Kind of distributed performances. Lots of forechecking attempts from Monahan-Marchenko-Voronkov, lots of rush for 4th line.

Provorov-Severson having a game is great for CBJ. Severson's mobility is one of their biggest weapons against rush teams.

5v5 map brings some clarity. Dallas created a lot more off-pass offense, some really big threats created. For CBJ, it loos like Marchenko, Coyle and Chinakhov finding a way to make 4th line deployment work.

CBJ xG is tainted by EN, should probably remove that from here going forward.

Huge game from WyJo, incredibly fluid and aware player. Same goes for Tyler Seguin who looked very dangerous.

Charlie Coyle had some of the biggest contributions

As far as TOI goes, Werenski did not lead CBJ. Perhaps because they had the lead and Evason is trying to find rest. Otherwise, 4th line got more at 5v5 than normally and the bottom six.

Sillinger, Olivier lead 5v5 TOI for CBJ F.
