But for a [censored by the Ministry of Partially-Reclaimed Slurs]. To %{cta_button}. Over the past year, I wrote a book. I'd written many before. All tossed in the trunk after failed queries, tepid beta feedback, and polite rejections that all came with "We just don't know where this would fit." You wouldn't believe how many times I've heard that in my life. Too loud. Too brash. Too stupid. Too smart. Too funny. Too serious. Too dark. Too weird. Too gay. I sat down in late 2024, and started writing a book that was every single one of those. A book that contained all the extremes I'd diluted over the years. The edges I sanded down. The joys I dimmed, and the laughter I hid. It's a book that once again has people asking "What shelf does it go on?"

This is a book that doesn't care about marketing department woes. That doesn't give a flying fuck which shelf it goes on. It's a book. A good book. A book that had seven beta readers giving practically unconditional positive feedback. It's not just a romance. It's not just a cyberpunk novel. It's not just a pulpy sword & laser adventure. It's all of those, and none. Because I didn't write it for the tropes. I didn't write it to fit some popular booktok fad. I didn't write it to meet a market niche decided upon by algorithms and salespeople. I wrote this book for me. And for you. Because we deserve something beautiful, and fun, and silly, and also just a bit serious. A book with something to say, and a funny voice to say it in. It's a book that doesn't go in a section of the bookstore. It goes on the endcap. It goes on the table that says "Staff picks." It's a book. And it's one you can have. But you have to back it now, because after this campaign, I won't be able to order more at this level of quality. They'll be print-on-demand from Amazon or Ingram. The colours won't pop the same way. They won't scream your name in neon pinks and yellows. And more than that, they won't make a debut bigger and brighter and badder. I need you. I need you to believe in this book the way I believe in it. The way I want to believe in myself. That there is a place out there for the unhinged, the ridiculous, the fun, and the hopeful. That even when the world is dark and our timelines are filled with doom, there's a light at the end of the tunnel. And it's not the afterlife. It's this life. The one we're living in. The one I wrote this book in. And the one you can make better. Let's make this book go boom.

my partner and I talk about this a lot because we all feel the same 😆 I think the *art* of commenting needs a revival! there's part of me that gets how it feels weird/can be difficult, but without comments this is just "media" not "social media"!

I have way fewer followers but I do wonder if half of them even exist any more, so I feel you! I am hoping it just takes some time/learning so that people get used to interacting and not "just scrolling", because that's all recent social media has taught us to do :/ Don't think, just ad revenue!
