I think it’s worth noting this piece generated the most unsubscribes I’ve seen in a while, and the newsletter version had the lowest open rate in many months. These horrors persist in part because too many people go to great pains to avoid them.

We go deep into:
→ Who gets to define “woman” (and why they want to)
→ The lie of the gender binar

As a sociologist, here’s my question:
If you want to burn Teslas but not Harry Potter books… ask yourself why.
In this episode of The Scenic Route, we unpack the UK Supreme Court ruling that tries to reduce womanhood to chromosomes—and the billionaire ‚feminist’ backing it.

We talk:
- why your body holds onto stress how emotional labour hides in plain sight
- the power of saying "I feel..." instead of "I'm fine"
- what small steps look like when you're ready and how to breathe your way back to yourself
In this episode of The Scenic Route, I'm joined by somatic therapist Michelle Sabatini to talk about stress, resilience, and the quiet revolution of being a body-not just having one.

Because your body remembers what your mind tried to override. That's the weight we carry.
Here's the thing about inner peace – it's not about having your shit together.
It's about being okay when it's scattered everywhere.
Yours, who has been there.

Why I like April Fools Day?
It’s one of the few days in the year where people slow down enough to process things they read and think critically.

So here’s the real question: If you grew up with a parent who demanded empathy but never returned it, how has that shaped the way you give (or withhold) empathy in your relationships today?
11.03.2025 16:37 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Sociology teaches us that empathy isn’t equally distributed. Some people are burdened extrapolating with giving it, while others move through life expecting it without question
11.03.2025 16:37 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0And yet, empathy isn’t just personal—it’s deeply social.
Who is expected to give empathy, and who receives it?
How do institutions train us to suppress or prioritize certain emotions?
How does capitalism commodify empathy—turning it into labor in care work, therapy, and customer service?
But here’s the thing: we rarely see our own empathy directly. We only recognize it through how others respond to us — through trust, relief, or connection. Empathy is a mirror, and its reflection is found in human interaction.
11.03.2025 16:37 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0As a Sociologist, I need to tell you that empathy isn’t passive. It’s not just witnessing pain or joy—it’s feeling it absorb into you.
