Yoongi was as beautiful as a house fire. Not meant to last long, but God, they burnt so bright and so fast. Maybe Jeongguk wasn't meant to last long either. Maybe he was dumb for wanting to stay by Yoongi’s side while he withers away. The boy who says he won't make it past 25. The boy who kisses Jeongguk with cigarette ash on his tongue and mud under his fingernails. The boy who punched Jeongguk's brother that one time after him and Jeongguk had fought. He would be just fine with burning with Yoongi. "He likes you, y'know." "What?" Jeongguk blinks, cheeks burning when he realizes he's been caught staring at Yoongi laugh at something Jimin said. Taehyung rolls his eyes with a knowing smile. "You see it too, right? How much bigger his smile is when he's around you? I've never seen Yoongi hyung smile that wide." "I'm sure it's just… it's definitely not 'cause of me if that's what you're getting at." "Ggukie, c'mon. Everyone knows. You're the only person Yoongi-hyung's still here for." Jeongguk ducks his head, hoping that's enough to signal the end of the conversation. Taehyung seems to feel merciful and lets it slide. Jeongguk draws a crudely dog barking in the mud underneath him, oddly imagining Yoongi. All loud and angry to people he doesn't know. But he knows Jeongguk. They know each other from their skin to their bones. Yoongi knows whenever Jeongguk's heart beats a little faster than it should and Jeongguk knows when Yoongi’s head feels like it's full of flies. They make each other's existence just a bit easier.
