“if Israël wanted a genocide… do you think it would take them 2 years?” I’ve seen this argument elsewhere. Surely to get away with genocide, you do it as the Israel government is doing it: slowly. That way, it takes a longer time for the world to take notice and take action.

2025 watch #133 - 28 Years Later. It’s the Platoon one, with young Spike learning from his father who deals in death, as well as the good doctor who respects the dead. And though the plot machinations to bring this about didn’t work for me, the ideas are grand and the story surprisingly emotional.

I wonder how many from the current administration will end up distancing themselves from him in the near future? Or does he have the “right” team this time who are happy to lie, deflect, cause pain, get rich and be Epstein-friendly…?

2025 watch #131 - Brimstone. If watching man’s inhumanity to woman relentlessly, for 2 hrs, is your thing then this is the film for you. Guy Pearce has the devil in him & revenge in his black heart. Add to that a Terminator-like resilience, and there’s no joy to be found here. Only blood. And guts.

Scary how close this story is in explaining the rise of Trump. An enigmatic man who quickly turns into a megalomaniac when he realises the power he holds over the people. He uses women as set dressing, has a proclivity for the young ones, gives people nicknames, and has a hair trigger volatility.

Top 8 and a final. More winning than losing, a healthy goal tally, and next season they go for the treble! 😁

The tail end of my thoughts on Kids Return, 1st watch last year: Kitano is incapable of making a boring movie but the plot does bounce this way and that like a punch drunk boxer, so you never really feel for any of the characters or care what becomes of them. Some disappear from the plot altogether…

2025 watch #129 - Seven Samurai (1954). I’d forgotten how long this epic is (3 hours) however it’s perfectly paced and you’re never bored. Mifune plays the wild man again, similar to the role that made him a household name in Rashomon, except this time he’s the flawed hero and comic relief. #filmsky
