This, Digby the Biggest Dog in the World, Herbie, what a time to be a kid!

Josh Gad as the stoner brother. Kaya Scodelario as the worrisome sister. A wannabe extortionist and a wannabe criminal face off over a dining booth table. Poster for the poorly named Adulthood.

2026 watch #49 - Adulthood (2025). Whilst their mother lies in hospital, her kids discover that she might be a murderer. Terrible title, deeply average comedy crime shenanigans, but I kinda dug it, mostly because I like Josh Gad’s schtick. Anthony Carrigan from TV show Barry is a bonus. #filmsky

A man has dug a grave in the desert and pulls a body from his van. The man begins to have doubts as he sits in his van and smokes. The man enlists the help of other victims of torture, including a man and woman on the eve of their wedding day. Poster for It Was Just an Accident (2025).

2026 watch #48 - It Was Just an Accident (2025). Shades of Death and the Maiden in this dark Iranian dramedy about a man who suspects another man of being his captor and tormentor. After driving him out to the desert he begins to have doubts and enlists the help of other potential victims. #filmsky

I shared an I-know-you smile with Moira Stuart in my local Sainsbury’s this weekend. I was thinking she probably likes to be recognised these days, but she hasn’t aged a day since she was a regular sight on the BBC!

Alison Brie Dave Franco Eyeballs with their eyelashes knitting together. Poster for Together (2025).

2026 watch #47 - Together (2025). “Plato wrote that the Ancient Greeks believed we were created with four arms, four legs and a head with two faces…” Two become one in this effective body horror metaphor about losing your self, starring real life couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco. #filmsky

Robert De Niro as young Vito, learning the gangster trade in NYC. Al Pacino as Michael, Vito’s youngest son and heir, watching his world unravel. Diane Keaton as Michael’s wife, who has some devastating news for the husband she used to adore. Poster for The Godfather Part II, Michael replacing Vito as the Godfather.

2026 watch #46 - The Godfather Part II (1974). Perfect sequel as both the strengths and the sins of the father are visited upon his remaining sons. Original and sequel both won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, and deservedly so. Now do I dare watch the coda and sully this rewatch? #filmsky

We’ve lived with warmongers for so long, but the warhungers are a different breed of human.

Cue them all being asked about it next time there’s a press junket. (won’t happen). Tom Cruise would be an interesting one, considering his recent thumb on the WB sale scale.

a man in a hat is sitting in the dirt with a caption that says if i say it 's safe to surf Alt: Robert Duvall stars in Apocalypse Now, telling his army unit on the beach (whilst bombs land all around) that "If I say it's safe to surf this beach, it's safe to surf this beach!"

A Christian fundamentalist known to speak in tongues is advising Trump whilst the US goes to war with Islamic fundamentalists? I love the smell of new normal in the morning...

When your kids play with guns, not a bucket and spade
It’s fun by the pool till you find there’s no shade
Linda climbs the ladder, one that she made
Michael promises to do better, after bullets are sprayed.

Trump’s just ended another war. Ronaldo is officially the GOAT, no way Messi gets back up from this.

Markwayne? This script writer is out of control with their silly distracting character names.

a man and a woman are looking at a city Alt: Final scene of the The Last of Us 1 mirrors the game, where (spoiler) Joel lies to Ellie before they finish their odyssey.

Michael lying to Kay, I've seen that somewhere more recently...

Al Pacino and Marlon Brando as father and son and heir. The late great Robert Duvall as Tom. James Caan as Sonny. Poster for The Godfather (1972).

2026 watch #45 - The Godfather (1972). Two weddings and a funeral and a christening. Not much else to be said about the godfather of gangster movies, except three hours flies by. #filmsky

Dylan O’Brien as obnoxious boss and Rachel McAdams as somewhat sympathetic survivor [of horrible boss]. Linda is using all her Survivor skills and killer instinct as she hunts for food with a sharp stick. Earlier times, Linda as the super-talented but friendless career climber who has the ladder whipped away from her. Poster for Send Help (2026)

2026 watch #44 - Send Help (2026). Misery on the Beach. Linda finds herself stranded on a desert island with her horrible boss. Fortunately she’s a big Survivor fan. Lots of fun to be had in this Sam Raimi horror adjacent movie. McAdams and O’Brien are perfectly cast, neither very likeable! #filmsky

I thought it one of the better love triangles I’ve seen. But the only thing I think the remake nails above thIs original is the ex-lover turned connard. Ralph Fiennes is magnificent as the tornado who arrives to disrupt the lovers. Dakota Johnson also has more agency in the remake.

Romy Schneider and Alain Delon sweat by the swimming pool. Maurice Ronet and Romy Schneider share a drink and old memories by the pool. Jane Birkin in one of her first major roles. Poster for La Piscine (1969).

2026 watch #43 - La Piscine (1977). A much quieter film than the brash Guadagnino remake but almost beat for beat the same story. In this inevitable AI future we could see Alain Delon & Ralph Fiennes in the same film, though I wouldn’t dare pick between Romy Schneider & Tilda Swinton. #filmsky

2026 watch #42 - La Ciénaga (2001). Slice of life film set during an Argentinian summer holiday: coming-of-age teens, bored adults drunk half the time, rampaging kids, casual racism, siestas, simmering tensions, barking dogs and towels and mud and blood. All feels highly naturalistic. #filmsky
