“Look at that! That is a complete fucking fraud, and it looks a hundred percent real. It's the best work I've ever done in my life, because it's so honest.” - Stanley Motss (Dustin Hoffman) in Wag The Dog.

Victoria Spartz takes all the heat & attention from Ukrainians while Inna Vernikov walks the golden path of supporting her birthplace while staying true to her Brighton Beach base of being the most cliche Soviet Jew from Chernivtsi possible. All her scandals make sense to me.

Protesting mask mandates in 2020? Speeding through school zones? Changing political parties to win in the Trump era? Withholding money from a Jewish museum over Ron DeSantis? Bringing a gun to a pro-Palestine protest? I have known Inna my entire life without meeting her.

Wrote this in the Other Place last year. Though I didn’t have the diaspora in mind but the civic-nationalist commentariat of all persuasions in UA. Though we definitely deserve a less embarrassing and wiser representative. At least we have Pritzker in the Midwest.

A wiser approach than the immigration lawyer from Chernivtsi.

It really hit me when I saw a decade of UK trade unionists, under their Ukraine Solidarity Campaign, build a real alliance with their UA counterparts. While when I talk to much of the US Left, I get told my friends & family must be sacrificed to humble US liberals. “There’s nothing in it for us.”

Nooo without America Hitler would have never discovered imperialism, colonialism, fascism and made the centrality of said ideology the global extermination of all Jews & “Jewish ideas” so that mankind could fully embrace pure race war.

May this ceasefire last long enough that outside of the obvious humanitarian needs, we can finally begin to confront the demagogues & charlatans that delight in using Jewish & Palestinian anxieties for their own antidemocratic projects.

Plenty of movements and politicians are filled with awful ideas. Don’t mistake my harsh criticism as an insinuation that means I think they should be excluded from participation in democracy or undeserving of self-determination. That requires exceptional circumstances like Moldova & Romania.

Maduro offered Trump to cut ties with Russia, China, & Iran to maintain his dictatorship. Preferential treatment for US markets. That’s the true nature of a tyrant. Anything and everything to maintain rule. To defend him and smear Machado for trying to oppose him democratically is pathetic.

Yeah but I fell into researching some of the debates around certain texts & ideas in 1960s USSR and who got rehabilitated to write what after 67’ that got disseminated abroad. Just a similar reaction of “I don’t get why this is offensive” leading to Bad Things.

Exhausting to hear this from people who then make “Vyacheslav The Jewslayer” jokes about Eastern Europe because nobody cares about preserving murals to every local Vladlen The Jewslayer. Who spent much of his career disseminating books blaming “Talmudic capitalists” to cover up embezzlement schemes.

I will continue to recognize the humanity of imperfect people, being a connoisseur in imperfect people from up close, iykwim, but the conversation is over when that's gamed into sanctifying the opinions of said imperfect people.

Becker acknowledged that this was the first time she had experienced such an attack. She said that these attacks should never become normal, but for the people of Ukraine, they have long been the norm.
Despite her experience, the MP continues to oppose the supply of German weapons to Ukraine.
She said that the attack only showed that every possible means must be used to ensure the weapons fall silent and the war comes to an end.

Not much goes on in the mind of a Die Linke MP. This was just one night in Lviv. Maybe she should go farther East and feel some sense of responsibility for 120+ years of Germany either occupying or selling out Ukraine.

Russia deliberately bombed 13,000 pigs in tandem with their hits on energy structure before winter last night. Saw a eulogy post from an Ru soldier for a unit member syphilitic DPRK soldier callsign “Zombie” because he had no nose. Often feels surreal explaining how insane they are.

Over at the good somewhat better place, I alluded to these posts to call them "a crystalline example of anti-Zionism in its 'antisemitism is the socialism of fools' guise," but also to observe that the degree to which sentiments like these are accepted or repudiated in the relevant communities of interest will depend almost entirely on how they're treated by non-Jewish non-Zionists. Obviously, the folks pushing or considering this line don't care a whit what I think, but Jewish anti-Zionists may be dismayed to learn their opinions will be equally irrelevant. The non-Jewish non-Zionists might have the epistemic authority to be able to arrest its momentum, but it will be hard -- in large part, because posts like this, precisely because of their antisemitism, are genuinely helpful to anti-Zionism's growth and influence in American politics.
It is a great and comforting lie that "antisemitism hurts our [anti-Zionist] movement". Antisemitism is one of the most powerful mobilizing forces the world has ever seen; it would be stunning if it did not provide at least some help to any movement that managed to successfully harness it. To the extent Americans can be persuaded that Jewish nationalism is why the US doesn't have good health care, that's very likely to make more Americans anti-Zionist and so benefit anti-Zionism as a movement. It would be, when you think about, far too convenient that "opposing antisemitism" only entail opposing things that already hurt the movement -- that's a cost-free action. The trouble comes when opposing antisemitism means actually forgoing useful tactics and ceding promising opportunities -- but that's where the rubber hits the road.

People use "anti-Zionism" to mean everything from "Every Jew needs to go back to Poland" to "One binational state with protections for both communities," which is why I don't find blanket statements of either "Anti-Zionism is antisemitism" or "anti-Zionism is not antisemitism" particularly helpful.

I see everyone has been very normal about the synagogue attack as expected. Always interesting to see who surprises me with an insane take and which Jews who claim to speak for all of us (from across the spectrum) spent all of Yom Kippur arguing online.

The administration has two main impulses: kleptocracy and reactionary ideology. The kleptocrats just want to squeeze as much money as possible out of the government. The reactionaries are utopians who think that if they roll back the enlightenment then power and prosperity will magically happen.
