Mood board with title in blue lettering: Portuguese Pastries and Other Cures for Heartache. With photos of pasteis de nata, a bakery pastry case, hands kneading dough, a latte in a glass, younger hands holding older hands, the hydrangeas and ocean of the Azores, an azulejo tile with two fish, flour falling through a baker's hands, a family at a table, and hand-written recipe cards.

Writing can be a long, windy road, but every once in a while there's a lightning strike where luck meets perseverance and magic happens. Today, one of those lightning strikes hit.
I'm excited to start a new chapter with a new agent at my side to champion this special book. More soon!

Finally catching my breath after an exciting Historical Novel Society conference in Las Vegas. What a whirlwind! Met so many new friends and learned so much. There's nothing like the healing energy of an in-person writer's conference. Can't wait for the next one! #writingcommunity #hns

Every new manuscript is an act of hope. And in this case, joy.

A woman on a balcony, holding a bouquet of red carnations, gives one of them to a soldier passing below, placing it on the muzzle of his gun while he looks up at her. All round, other soldiers walk beside him, some wearing red carnations on the muzzles of his guns too, others waiting for their turn. On the background, Portuguese tiles frame the woman, while the balcony's railing slowly transforms into a streetlamp typical of Lisbon (with a caravel and 2 ravens, the symbols of the city).

Celeste dos Cravos

An illustration commemorating the Carnation Revolution that took place in Portugal on the 25th of April of 1974, and the woman, Celeste Caeiro, who gave the revolution its name with a simple gesture :)

How I would have loved such a book growing up, or even for my kids growing up (I blinked and they got huge). Can't wait to get copies for the nieces and nephews!

Mood board with images of Lisbon, people in love, best friends, pasteis de nata, a Portuguese guitar, maps, and words in the background Information graphic for a novel called Pen Names and Other Problems with a photo of a Lisbon street at the top.
"When Annabel’s splashy romance book deal threatens her prestigious professor job, she talks her best friend into being the public face of the author. But what’s Annabel to do when her dreamy publicist falls for the “author,” and Annabel for him?
Pitch: Annabel is a respectable professor at the venerable St. James’s University by day, but by night, she writes historical romances that would make her colleagues sneer in disdain. Life gets complicated when Annabel’s novel sells in a huge auction and becomes the buzz book of the season, complete with a world tour and tons of publicity.
Desperate to keep her identities separate, she cajoles her best friend into being the public face of the author for her, while she tags along as her assistant. Can Annabel keep up her dual lives, especially when her dreamy publicist falls for the “author,” and Annabel for him?
Background: This story is a love letter to 90s rom-coms and the heroines played by Meg Ryan and Sandra Bullock. It’s a nod to the fun 90s movie The Truth about Cats and Dogs (with mine focusing on the main character’s anxiety, rather than her looks). It’s also a reflection on the types of literature we revere and the types we disdain, and the ways that society has conditioned us to look down on women’s literature and romance. It’s a celebration of best friendships, mother-daughter book bonding, and falling in love with someone’s mind and heart. And because it’s mine, it’s also a glimpse into Portuguese heritage and place and the way our culture informs who we are and what we love.
Tropes: Friends to lovers
Mistaken identities
Imagined love triangle
Writer MC and book nerd/publishing LI
International setting
Slow burn
Comps: Book Lovers
Thank You for Listening
Beach Read
Meet Me in the Margins"

Inspired by my yoga teacher this morning to put something of myself out in the world today, in case it inspires someone else. This is for my most recently completed novel, Pen Names and Other Problems, the one that helped me find joy in writing again. #writing #books #writingcommunity

It's been a hot minute since I dove into Arthurian lore, but I did love Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, so my vote is for him. 💚

Hello new and former friends! I'd kind of resigned myself to giving up on social media, but all the new follows are inspiring me to give it another go. Looking forward to being part of a nurturing and positive community again!

What will Annabel do when her book publicist falls for the author, but doesn't realize it's her?" There are diagonal teal stripes and a brunette woman looking over a red book.

Three story covers on a light blue sky and sea background with the words "StoryLoom Summer Reading: Read unlimited chapters for free this week! Links in bio!" The covers are for a Regency story with a woman in a bonnet looking out to sea called Summer at the Seaside; a rom-com called Romance 101 with a brunette looking over her book at a silhouetted couple; and a Gothic mystery with a misty island called Island of Mysteries, author Suzi Guina.

It's been a whirlwind week for StoryLoom work! I heard exciting news about my rom-com Romance 101, met some amazing benchmarks, and added more chapters to my Regency story Summer at the Seaside. If you've been curious about StoryLoom, this is a great time to check it out!
