Attention guests! Reminder that the gondola and California Trail are closed this week through Friday for maintenance. Both will be open again Saturday!

Our MANE visitor at the vet hospital this week was Mandla the lion!🦁

This 500-lb boy got a full exam, bloodwork, and some dental TLC from @northbayvetdentist.

We’re happy to say Mandla is feeling great and ruling his realm after his successful visit!

An update re: the mtn lion seen in SF, which was reported heading twd Oakland Zoo for care. We have lots of experience with puma rescues, but weren't involved w/this case.

We applaud the SF orgs & CDFW for safely relocating the puma to a more suitable habitat.

Meerkats know how to soak up the bit of sun we're getting!

Meerkats often lie on their bellies to absorb sunlight and help regulate body heat. In the wild, they wake, emerge from burrows, sunbathe briefly, and then feed and forage.

Though Lola was with us for only a few years and was 12 years old when she arrived at the Zoo, we are thankful to have had the chance to care for her during her final years. The experience of showing her that a truly good life was possible has left a lasting impact on us.

Their tragic story is a reminder of the damaging effects of the cub-petting industry and the need for strong regulations on the ownership and care of big cats.

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Lola Tiger. 

Lola came to us in 2022, when Oakland Zoo participated in rescuing several large cats from an abandoned roadside zoo in Oklahoma, where they had been living in dismal conditions.

We recently celebrated Brock's special birthday, one of OZ's Animal Ambassadors. He just turned 48 years old! Rescued from the pet trade, Brock has been part of the OZ family since 1982, greeting everyone with a big "hello" (one of his favorite words).
