The Daily Shard from The Fractured Mirror of the day is the charming 2001 comedy-drama The Cat's Meow, one of many movies in my book about movies about movies that prominently involves Peter Bogdanovic, its patron saint and the ultimate cinephile. www.nathanrabin.com/happy-place/...
Influx is one of my favorite presses out there, so I'm reading this with much curiosity. (I'll admit I'm not familiar with their new owners, hence...the curiosity.) www.instagram.com/p/DVrvVvgE9Ub/

"Afterlife Horror," you say? I'm in.
...though I am amused that the trailer about a movie about indie rock in Montreal features a song by...MGMT.
The Birdcage opened thirty years ago today, so in its honor, I want to share one of my favorite stories about Mike Nichols that didn't make it into my biography. This is from an interview I did with Nathan Lane.
Rambled a bit about three very different books with jazz at their respective hearts. tobiascarroll.info/2026/03/09/q...
Political insight *and* an adorable dog cameo? I'm in!
Thanks! This is great to know and is absolutely going to send me down some cinematic rabbit holes very soon.
She Dies Tomorrow could work....
Had not realized that there was a film adaptation of Julio Cortázar's "The Pursuer." Going to need to track this down, I think. www.imdb.com/es/title/tt0...
...this reminds me that I have yet to watch the last few episodes, and should really get on that.
I also wonder if it's part of a larger trend of cover bands/tribute acts moving into bigger and bigger spaces. (I feel like things like this project and Gillian Welch & David Rawlings doing a Grateful Dead-themed tour will also attract people who'd never go see a more traditional cover band.)
THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!
This is excellent news right here!
Looking forward to today's pair of Zona Motel AWP events, for what it's worth. zonamotel.substack.com/p/awp-where-...
Google Play delivered issue 16 of The Power Fantasy into my account last night and...god damn. I didn't know that many other shoes could drop in the span of a single issue.
OK, had a genuinely heartwarming moment at AWP; willing to concede that nice things are sometimes possible.
I am once again tapping the "support independent, worker-owned, billionaire free news" sign. the most powerful people in the world should not be deciding whether or not we know about this sort of thing. putting Marisa's subscription link below

Would never have guessed "Santeria" would still be a crowd favorite 30 years later. Related: I am still not a fan of "Santeria." Sorry, Sublime Hive.
