Finally got my telescope sorted after getting some new bits for it, and a nice clear night today! π

thank you!! this is really nice to hear
Proud to have been part of Katherine's first PhD paper ππ Her detailed study of a distant galaxy reveals what is likely an ongoing merger in a complex system containing both young and old stellar populations with new evidence for the presence of small carbonaceous grains β read more below!
Thank you to everyone involved with this paper, in particular @renskerens.bsky.social, @joriswitstok.bsky.social, and all coauthors!
We find that this is one of the strongest known UV bumps. Studying these UV bump systems could help us constrain dust production mechanisms in the early Universe. Finally, the open symbol on this plot shows a tentative UV bump detection in another galaxy at z=6.74.
Through various morphological analyses, this galaxy is likely a minor merger, which could be driving the recent starburst
We have identified a strong 2175Γ UV bump feature in a luminous Lyman break galaxy at z=7.11 in the NIRSpec Wide GTO survey. We also find an offset peak wavelength of the UV bump, with a peak wavelength of 2257Γ
It's paper day! π Very excited to share that my latest paper, and the first to come from my PhD, is on
