.... but the route was held back due to no money being available for a new bridge over Merryhills Brook. The old route, from the end of Trentwood Side, going in a north-westerly direction to cross the Brook by means of an existing farm track, was a temporary arrangement & has now been blocked off 🧵

At the end of Trentwood Side a new footpath, turning right and following the southern boundary of Vicarage Farm now provides the link to the Merryhills Way. This new path was the route originally agreed with landowner Comer Homes .... 🧵

Several members have contacted us in recent days about earthworks underway on Vicarage Farm, Enfield Chase, and the apparent blocking of access to the Merryhills Way from Trentwood Side, off Slades Hill EN2..... 🧵

.... at present the council is treating the loss as criminal damage and the matter has been referred to the police.
The notices taped to the stump relate to a belated Tree Preservation Order to prevent any further work taking place at the site without council consent.

The sad remains of the enormous, ancient oak tree on the SW edge of the Whitewebbs Toby Carvery car park which was inexplicably (and potentially illegally) felled by unknown contractors last week. Enfield Council's tree officer is investigating.....

Work has begun on the "Unlocking Broomfield" project: making-good the hoardings around the old Broomfield House, in preparation for a new community mural celebrating the history of the Park and House. There will be a public “Paint Jam” on Saturday 12th April (poster attached) - all welcome!

Can you spot the mythical beast known as an "Enfield"? Look too for the bars in green, silver and blue which represent the New River, Green Belt areas and open spaces in general.
