unfortunately i think these orgs are just going to proritise the career success of their members over the interests of the community they ostensibly represent
though, they only are able to have this authority in the first place due to their perception in broader society
i constantly hear people argue that true art is made as like some internal process of self expression (usually when i ask for their opinions on things i'm working on) and like, i just don't think this ideal people have of art ever really existed
is 'art that exists only because the artist is getting paid' held to this standard or nah?
so much of the humour i grew up with was 'contemporary pop culture references (that i usually didn't get)'
and like, comedy today still does contemporary pop culture references all the time, but it feels like social media has kinda changed what 'pop culture' is: less regional but more singular
but frankly the one time i've let someone do that for me is because it served as a bit of an excuse to get a new console i'd been planning on getting anyway
i suppose the real advantage is that this kind of 'marketing' can be done with friends who don't live locally?
i think the ideal consumer that games companies are trying to chase is the 'friend who buys copies of the game for their friends, so they will [be obliged to] play it with them' because it means (similar to local multiplayer) there's no risk for these friends who don't own the games yet
now, the argument always seems to be 'we can't release a free game with the console; it will hurt console launch sales' but it greatly boosted additional wiimote and nunchuk sales
even if 'local multiplayer isn't as profitable as we want' *is* true, it expanded the range of games people would buy

the feminist part seems to be the bit most have an issue with, really, even if they won't usually say it loud
which is *interesting*, because the legal argument for why they must exclude trans females is essentially that they would thus not be considered a single-sex space, and would thus be discriminating against men
it's almost like it's men's reactionary grievances all the way down
i remember this coming up a lot with the girlguiding and the women's institute legal stuff, where there had been a lot of calls to let men/boys join to be "truly inclusive"
people /want/ to participate in systems which exploit them all the time because of the incentives placed on them, even when they may also /want/ to not be in such a situation at all
centering 'want' as the basis of feminism, therefore, feels flawed
I feel like I need to write about how comphet appears in gay trans men bc it's actually crazy how many times I see posts like this and all the comments are like yeah you don't need to transition that's valid! without any further interrogation
like its arguments require the reader to assume that men see trans women as fellow men for them to make any sense, even if they feel *intuitive* if you do accept that premise
so much of the transsexual empire (and the praise from contemporary cis feminists) really just has me thinking cissexism wasn't necessarily any less pervasive at the time it came out (as much as people use media fascinations with trans people to claim otherwise)
