Fun factoid to start the day: regardless of the difficulty of the topic, the compute (and energy) overhead of an interaction with an LLM is a function of the total number of tokens (input + output) involved.
Bit of a clue, dontcha think?

BBC news: "Denmark says 'professional actor' behind drone incursions over its airports"
Me: I bet AmDram societies all over Europe are breathing a sigh of relief.

A comic on the bridge from Star Trek the Next Generation.
Picard: COMMANDER DATA, PLEASE IDENTIFY THAT ROMULAN VESSEL.
Data: THAT'S A GREAT IDEA CAPTAIN!
IDENTIFYING A VESSEL IS A GREAT PLACE TO START - IN ANY TACTICAL OR STRATEGIC OUTER SPACE SITUATION.
THIS VESSEL APPEARS TO BE A 23rd CENTURY KLINGON BIRD OF
PREY! 🚀🦅✨
Picard: ARE YOU SURE?
LIKE I SAID WE'RE... PRETTY SURE IT'S ROMULAN.
Data: ...
Data: OF COURSE! SO SORRY ABOUT THAT, YOU'RE RIGHT!
ON CLOSER EXAMINATION IT'S A ROMULAN VESSEL! CAN I RECOMMEND SOME SOONG™ BRAND PRODUCTS THAT CAN HELP YOU WITH THAT?
Picard cradles his face in his hand in a gesture of frustration.
Data: DID I MENTION THE PLIGHT OF OPRESSED WHITES IN SOUTH AFRICA?

Folks telling me that the larger context windows of LLMs means they "remember" more, I can only assume either didn't check the output or haven't actually tried it.
For scale, a 100 LOC source file I checked had > 1000 tokens.

Every time Gradle posts a major release plugins get borked.
Every. Single. Time.
Sometimes even on minor, and patch releases. All just to shave a few nano seconds from build times.
I wonder why I even bother with this broken build tool 🙄😓😡

I’ve never published an essay quite like this. I’ve written about my life before, reams of stuff actually, because that’s how I process what I think, but never for public consumption. I’ve been pus…
New post up, with a bunch of thoughts on what drives me personally, and my own 40-year career (h/t @lethain.com).
I have a pretty unusual life story. But one of the reasons I love the tech industry so much is how common unusual stories like mine have historically been.

Hey managers: Want to create a product faster? Easy. Remove the friction that you impose on the teams. When you don't impede the team's work, they can work blindingly fast. "Slow" is not the team's fault, it's yours.

I have tested Jackson 3 with JsonUnit and everything works great. Btw. the migration from OSSRH was pretty straightforward, the only issue was a different way of excluding artifacts from the deployment github.com/lukas-krecan...

Most teams don't have a tech problem. They have a learning problem. Fast feedback, short iterations, real users. That’s how software grows.
Stop polishing code in a vacuum. Ship. Learn. Improve. Repeat.
