Yesterday I spent the day photographing old water pumps. It will be a part of a publication devoted to the historical significance of water pumps in Ireland's communal life. It's one of the most interesting commissions I've received due to its nature and use of my preferred photographic techniques

I spent last week in the countryside.I really needed it.Peace and quiet around the clock,walks in the mountains and forests.I increasingly feel that only a place far from people and hustle and bustle can provide true relaxation.I wouldn't trade it for any top holiday destination or exotic vacation.

Absolutely, and yes, this part was fantastic

I just finished reading 'Hold Still' by Sally Mann. An extraordinary book. Her memoir changed my perspective on her whole body of work.
And what's important - the experience sparked a strong desire to pick up my camera again and return to overdue projects.
That’s a good thing, right?

Looking back, I think I was wrong - at least partially.
After a long break from photography, I returned to it with a new project in mind… only to stop again with countless excuses.
What you said is absolutely true: we should remember our passion. Thank you for the reminder.

Beautiful images, Deborah—and such an interesting idea woven through your words. I’ve had quite the opposite experience. Over the years, taking many photographs, I began to feel that this way of working didn’t make much sense—that only a cohesive body of work could truly convey a meaningful idea.
