I notice that she must have spent some of her before school time this morning finishing Ken Liu's story "The Seventh Day of the Seventh Moon" because she was in the middle of it last night before bed.
I cannot express the joy of my kid choosing to read over device time in the morning <3
Reporting back in on my 11 year old reading Kaleidoscope for the first time.
She absolutely adored Cookie Cutter Superhero by @tansyrr.bsky.social . She came in, hands clasped and announced, "It was Soooooo Goooood."

It's quite a moment to see her reading a book that Julia Rios and I made for exactly kids like her. And to think that the Kickstarter for this project finished the day I gave birth to this kid.
Life is a wild ride.
Today was the day I handed my 11 year old kid a copy of Kaleidoscope and said, "I think this is what you are looking for."
She currently has her nose buried in it. Do you KNOW what a win this is to overcome the lure of the DEVICE????

I am pretty pleased though that these school holidays, my eldest (who is 11), has discovered Orphan Black. We're slowly watching the eps together. I am thoroughly enjoying the rewatch. Though I'm not sure if this is the best parenting choice? The violence is fine but we have to fwd the sexytimes...
