Yay! More economic growth. We're all saved now.
I don't know about you, but I'm counting on economic growth looking after me when I'm old. My kids will be too busy making money and looking at screens. But, I know economic growth will be there when I need her.

And? So what?
Christmas sales growth, means: more micro-plastics in our bodies, fatter humans, more extraction of resources, pollution.
Try and find an article about humans caring for their elderly more, or spending more time with their kids. Hard to find. But economic growth, is everywhere.

I havenβt quite got my head around it yet, but this is the second time Iβve heard the argument that the US attacked Venezuela to ensure fossil energy is bought in dollars globally, and it seems very compelling.

Some things never change. The US invades another country and takes their oil. The oil companies and shareholders make a fortune. The cycle repeats.
Let's please ensure this cycle never happens in the renewables space, particularly when it comes to lithium. I worry about Chile.

I would say so. Not fully. But, we all know it's coming. Not sure we have any idea what the world will look like when the transfer is taking place in earnest. And we certainly don't know what it will look like when the transfer has taken place.
Fun times ahead!

Absolutely correct.
The US has the most military bases in the world. It spend vastly more money on its military than any other country.
It dominates using force. Just like Rome did. And, just like Rome, the US will fall. Who will take its place? That's a scary thought.

Absolutely! We need to remove all economic support for US goods and services. They will not listen otherwise.
We did a decent job on Tesla last year. But, the movement lost steam. Let's please, please, all divest from US goods and services, including our retirement accounts in the S&P500. ππ½

I wonder how many countries the US would invade if we moved to a degrowth system, or a slow growth/care economy?
For now, I think we need to remove our money from the US economy, where we can. We did it with Russia. Why not the US?

I don't think we should focus on what Trump is doing in the energy space. Renewables are on a massive uptrend. The world needs them. He can't stop their growth.
We should focus on WHY we need to build all of this energy infrastructure in the first place.
Growth. Endless, mindless growth.

Billionaire Bill Gates calls for climate strategy pivot ahead of COP30
Billionaire investor and philanthropist Bill Gates called on world leaders on Tuesday to adapt to extreme weather and focus on improving health outcomes rather than temperature reduction targets ahead...
I was being hyperbolic for effect. He said, climate change was "not-civilisation ending". Something he could not possibly know.
It's entirely possible that climate change will end civilisation. Anyone who says otherwise, is trying to sell something. IMHO of course.

Says the guy who writes a book on climate change, advocating a bunch of techno "solutions" and then says climate change is nothing to worry about. That humans will be ok, even in 3 degrees of warming.
His crystal ball is incredible. The people who designed it, also designed Clippy for Word. π

GREENWASHED | Full Documentary [Official]
It's taken me weeks to fully digest the documentary Greenwashed.
Love it or hate it, it's a conversation starter. We need to discuss the issues this film brings up. I have no interest in discussing solutions without talking about population and consumption in the same breath.

Pretty sure this is what Orwell warned us about.
Orwell was not just warning about communism. He was warning against all authoritarianism.
Being arrested for holding a sign has got to be the first step to brutal authoritarianism.
We have been warned. What will we do next?

Yes! Spending time in forests and nature is associated with almost endless positive health effects.
We must recognise that in Ireland start treating these places are crucial to our health, not just profit.

And once again, it all comes down to consumption.
300 million people flying this Xmas. To bring presents to people, they probably don't like, to sit in a house, which is probably too warm (or too cold, if in Florida), using too much energy and eating too much.
I love Xmas. I hate overconsumption.

It is not working!
Too much consumption. We should not have created a world where 300 million humans fly around the world, for a holiday, that has become essentially a way for corporations to make more money and sell more things. It's lunacy!

𧡠2/2. Orwell discusses:
The filthy conditions the coal miners work in, for little pay.
He critiques the welfare system and the lack of housing.
Mostly, I loved the idea of giving every human, who applies, a parcel of land and some tools to make them truly responsible for their own lives.

𧡠1/2. Orwell never disappoints. I have loved George Orwell since reading 1984. I read Down and Out in Paris and London several years ago and liked it even more than 1984.
