Love all of this!! I credit the ATLA writers for trying this with Katara, even though they dropped the ball partway through the series. They just didn’t have the perspective necessary to follow through. I wish more actual eldest daughters got more of a voice in storytelling.

…like Jinu and Rumi!!! Which is NOTHING like Reylo! Jinu and Rumi have real on-screen development and actual chemistry. They bond over similar traumas and their desire to be free of past pain. Also Jinu is not a violent radicalized extremist!!! Or a cold-blooded killer!!

I bitch a lot about dark romance and Reylo and shit but I actually do LOVE enemies-to-lovers, when it’s done right. It’s not about randomly falling for an asshole. It’s about forging an unexpected bond with someone who seems totally unlike you, but you actually have more than you think in common…

The worst thing TLJ did was sugarcoat Kylo Ren’s character. In TFA he was a brutal warrior who killed and tortured without remorse. He was radicalized into violent extremism, a choice he solidified by killing his father. That was all hand-waved away for some stupid romance that made no sense.

HECK YEAH. Just tacking on that romantasy FMCs are often *not feminist enough* and if you’re coming after a woman for being ‘too strong’ ‘too perfect’ or an ‘angry feminist’ you can f*ck right off, I’m so tired of hearing that. Your problem should be with toxic alpha males not with strong women 🙄
