The American evangelical right is absolutely shitting themselves with excitement over this. There is nothing on planet earth that they want more then a destabilized Middle East at war to trigger the rapture. This is 100% fact even though it sounds ridiculous.

God my absolute heart is with the people of Iran, who’ve fought so steadfastly for their own liberation, and are getting fucked half a dozen ways by a whole pantheon of geriatric war criminals while being told they should be grateful for it

I think this is the right take. From outside of New York, I know it seems NYC is a hotbed of democratic liberalism. But actual New York politics are almost the reverse: the New York Democratic Party leadership is united mainly by trying to keep the left from power.

You have more in common with the average Iranian citizen than you do with the people that run this country

That one person can drag us into a war without consulting or even notifying Congress, or our allies, or fully explaining to the American people why this is necessary, is absolutely bonkers.

Reminder that Congress has the power to stop all of this. Where the hell are they? Hello?

After leaving for Europe in a couple weeks, I would like to be let back in for two reasons: my cats and my human loved ones. Other than that…..🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah, I was hunky dory until I read the comments on a video asking non-Americans what information they’re getting that is being censored from us. Ooh boy, was that a panic attack waiting to happen. Saw my future refugee status flash before my eyes.

Sen. Booker’s speech was a substantive and moral account of this moment. He did not read the phone book. He did not babble.
For 24 hours @booker.senate.gov laid out a detailed, damning, and critical narrative of truth, history, politics, morality, humanity.

What will you do?

Trump Appointed Prosecutor Quits In Defiance Of His Corruption Read her bombshell resignation letter.

This wasn’t some liberal holdover. This wasn’t a career bureaucrat. This was someone Trump’s team installed. And even she couldn’t stomach what they were doing. She wasn’t alone. Five more federal prosecutors resigned in protest. Bless their courage!

None of us are free until all of us are free. If trans people aren’t safe, neither am I. I know who these people are because they are who they have always been.

Don’t underestimate the impact you’re making when you choose to wear a mask.

You’re protecting your health & the health of your community. You’re helping ease the burden on our healthcare system.

You’re standing in solidarity with disabled people & telling the government that no one is expendable

A photo from Battlestar Galactica (reimagined series by Ron Moore). Chief Tyrol asks "what do we do now, Captain?" And Starbuck replies "do the same thing we always do. Fight 'em til we can't."

I can't think of a better evening to post this scene from Battlestar Galactica (note that it it now 20 years since its debut and more relevant than ever).

Listen to Starbuck.

It's also been my experience that the people most likely to be performing the "woe is us! democracy is dead and gone! we have no hope any more and there's no point even trying!" are very often the people who are least at risk.

The people who are most at risk are gearing up for a fight.

If you're feeling despair in the moment, that is pretty unsurprising.

If you're feeling despair all the time, that is awful for you and you need help, and I hope you get it.

If you're going around telling OTHER people that there's no hope and they should only feel despair, fuck off.

To me the cool thing about this image is that the sprinkling of blue stars are in the foreground, some 5 million light years away, while all those gorgeous colorful swirly galaxies are almost unimaginably more distant, out in the far depths of the cosmos. More info: www.stsci.edu/contents/med...

This reminds me of a movie that’s not getting discussed as much today, but that I loved. For all the talk of his dark, strange movies, “The Straight Story” is a sweet, gentle, G-rated Walt Disney Pictures release that’s somehow still unmistakably Lynchian.

As my uncle stokes the fire and tries to blow on the embers, we lament the fact that we cannot find a Rizzo the Rat bellows anywhere online which feels like a bold oversight for the Muppet Christmas Carol season.
