Also from yesterday: after visiting St. Thomas’s, I took a stroll to Gabriel’s Wharf as I heard it’s going to close within a year. It opened while I was at Tommies. We used to go there for lunch and post work food/drink. A bit sad that it’s closing.

It'd be a lot nicer if all the "RIP" posts following a celebrity just thanked the individual for what they did. Even better, if you love an elderly celebrity's work, write to them or their agent and tell them before it's too late. You'll be surprised at how often they reply.

Rosalind Franklin and the damage of gender harassment Spurred by a recent report on sexual harassment in academia, our columnist revisits a historical case and reflects on what has changedβ€”and what hasn’t

Thinking only of Rosalind Franklin today, and what was stolen from her (and so many other female scientists alongside her).

On 21st of October 1966, 116 children and 28 adults were killed in the horrific Aberfan disaster, caused by the failure of the National Coal Board.

Today, we remember those who lost their lives and stand with the community of Aberfan now and always.

Never again.

Always take sentences using β€œthe Cloud” or β€œthe Internet” and try replacing those phrases with β€œA shed in Virginia” to see how they hold up. β€œOur service is fully based in a shed in Virginia”; β€œAll my files are in a shed in Virginia”; β€œA shed in Virginia was designed to survive a nuclear war”, etc.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

A long shot of Edinburgh Castle on a rocky hill against a blue sky with a waning gibbous moon. Edinburgh Castle is a historic fortress in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom, atop Castle Rock. Edinburgh Castle is made of tan stone and has several towers and buildings surrounded by a stone wall. A flagpole with the Union Jack flies on the top of the castle. The sun is low in the sky, casting long shadows on the hill below the castle.
