16.11.2025 20:34 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Congrats to Bill Pulte for being named this week's Washington Main Character (Non-Epstein Division)
14.11.2025 17:16 โ ๐ 11 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0My latest: The flood of revelations this week against FHFA Director Bill Pulte will make your head spin! www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
14.11.2025 17:30 โ ๐ 353 ๐ 152 ๐ฌ 15 ๐ 8I grew up in Allston as part of a family of immigrants. BU students are temporary guests in a corner of Boston that has long been a hub for immigrants from around the world. To do this (and to claim allegiance to the neighborhood along the way) is abhorrent.
14.11.2025 17:28 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Not only is the GCB the perfect dive bar, but it is also a nonprofit, plus the owners will let you throw a rager of a wedding reception (I would know!). Glad it is getting its time to shine: www.bostonglobe.com/2025/10/23/m...
25.10.2025 18:25 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Internal emails show MPTโs top executives referring to the Wall Street Journal reporter who was writing about them as a โderanged, pretend journalistโ whose sources, they claimed, were โabsolutely fake.โ
โIโm tired of this guy, wrote MPTโs CEO. โItโs time we go on the offensive.โ
One analyst, a finance guy in Connecticut, got barraged with harassing tweets asking if he had security, saying that โhis life [was] in danger,โ and warning he could end up like a murdered journalist. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
20.10.2025 19:22 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0One of those intelligence firms mounted an effort focused on protecting MPT. It included a fake blog, a planted Reddit user, that bank hack, and orders to dig into MPT critics' โvulnerabilities and pressure points,โ including โcareer, integrity, personal life and identify any potential misconduct.โ
20.10.2025 19:21 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0What we found when we went through these leaked docs, though, is a much broader effort. MPT amassed an army of crisis management professionals to protect its reputation, eventually working alongside 3 crisis PR firms, 5 law firms, and 2 private intelligence firms. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
20.10.2025 19:19 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0MPT owns and rents out nearly 400 facilities globally. A few years ago, journalists and financial analysts began pointing out that MPT might be hiding the fact that its hospitals were struggling under high rents. Things got intense; a criticโs bank account was hacked: revealnews.org/podcast/medi...
20.10.2025 19:18 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This July, @acleek.bsky.social & I made a radio show about a major hospital landlord named Medical Properties Trust.
Now, weโve unraveled MPT's aggressive effort to silence and surveil its critics as they tried to raise alarm, using docs leaked to @occrp.org www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
Looks like Pulte filed his backdated Form 3 yesterday, the day we published my story. Better 7 months late than never! fanniemae.gcs-web.com/static-files...
15.10.2025 16:50 โ ๐ 421 ๐ 137 ๐ฌ 5 ๐ 7NEW from @h-lev.bsky.social: As chairman of the board of Fannie Mae, Bill Pulte was required to file a disclosure form with the SEC. He didnโt.
14.10.2025 18:27 โ ๐ 108 ๐ 57 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 2New from me: In March, FHFA director Bill Pulte made himself chairman of the board of Fannie Mae. But after, he did not file a required disclosure form tied to the role with the SECโthe same kind of paperwork error he has used to attack Trump's political foes. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
14.10.2025 18:39 โ ๐ 225 ๐ 88 ๐ฌ 6 ๐ 1I had to Google the Hangi, and yes!
23.09.2025 20:22 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Some of the wishes on this list include getting rid of state regulation of children's online safety (to decrease costs, ofc), ending *all* state regulation of banking, and eliminating minimum and fair-wage requirements. Quite the lineup!
23.09.2025 19:41 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This account is journalism on weekdays, but Rhode Island clambakes on the weekends
20.09.2025 19:20 โ ๐ 70 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 4 ๐ 0Bill Pulte has weaponized his office to attack Trumpโs political enemies, including economist Lisa Cook.
However, critics argue that Pulte's abuse of office is "a far, far greater offense than any personal mortgage occupancy fraud by a federal official."
And it is one more data point showing how the private equity business model isn't compatible with providing the best patient care. I wrote about another example for our latest issue, that of the PE-fueled Steward Health Care: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
16.05.2025 17:58 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This study, published earlier this month, is quite striking. Especially because studying the impacts of PE ownership on hospitals is quite hard. The industry is opaque; plus, PE firms buy and then sell off the properties so fast that it's hard to track when something is or isn't PE-owned.
16.05.2025 17:54 โ ๐ 11 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Her baby Lilly died. Lisa's lawyer filed a motion to compel Steward to turn over records so she could figure out if understaffing led to this delay. Her filing was *5 days* before Steward declared bankruptcy. That paused the case. Which means she can't get company records anymore. /10
14.05.2025 18:07 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0In the case of Lisa Malick, she was pregnant with a healthy baby girl in 2021; it was her ninth pregnancy, after years of fertility struggles and IVF. She had a placental abruption at a Steward hospital. It took nearly 3 hours for someone to perform a C-section while the baby's heart rate fell. /9
14.05.2025 18:03 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Nabil and I talked on Zoom for months, almost weekly. It was a front row seat to the evolution of grief, and the recognition that something so life-altering can flow out of decisions made in a boardroom by people far removed from patient care. /8
14.05.2025 17:56 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0In the case of Sungidaโs husband, Nabil, 1.5 years later every day feels like a small betrayal. Of the dreams he and Sungida had for themselves and for their daughter in America. This was so apparent when I visited him in Dhaka for the film. /7
14.05.2025 17:55 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Picking this back up to talk a little more about the two cases featured in this story and film. Both of these families emphasized the wreckage that continues to rip through their lives from the business decisions made at Steward hospitals. /6 www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
14.05.2025 17:29 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 1@h-lev.bsky.social and @melissa.news scraped every malpractice, personal injury, and wrongful death case tied to Steward hospitals in nine states. We found 469 cases involving 83 patient deaths. The chain's bankruptcy means many of these patients can't pursue justice: bit.ly/455xC7O
13.05.2025 16:09 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Sungida Rashid died after giving birth at a Massachusetts hospital run by the for-profit chain Steward Health Care.
She wasn't alone: @h-lev.bsky.social and @melissa.news uncovered 12 more instances of moms and newborns who died at these hospitals over the last 14 years: bit.ly/455xC7O
It's impossible to read this story about a mom dying after childbirth and not be devastated and furious about everything that @h-lev.bsky.social found in her jaw-dropping investigation about America's biggest for-profit hospital operator www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
13.05.2025 18:04 โ ๐ 10 ๐ 6 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0@atwaheed.bsky.social and @lailaalarian.bsky.social at Fault Lines decided to turn this reporting into a film. I'm so grateful to them. We travelled around the world to follow two families whose lives were torn apart, including Sungidaโs husband and daughter /5 www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXkE...
13.05.2025 16:57 โ ๐ 38 ๐ 10 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0โฆ12 more moms and newborns who died. And 21 who suffered severe injuries. Their stories lay bare the line from corporate greed to shattered lives. But what we rarely get a chance to see is the long arc of devastation from these business decision; the months and years of what comes after. /4
