Imagine taking the production of affordable housing as seriously as the federal government took the space race in the 1960s. This actually happened, thanks to the REPUBLICANS running HUD. My story for @bloomberg.com on Operation Breakthrough. www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...
“The Trump administration is reviewing proposals to break up one of the world’s leading climate and weather laboratories, transfer its work to universities and private companies, take away its aircraft, and sell its property in Boulder, CO.”
How many things can one incredibly corrupt moron destroy?
Realizing that I am going to have to ask "what are the AI guidelines" before agreeing to judge any future architecture competitions.
My kids are ready (15yo started commuting to Manhattan at 11)
“Are columns your barometer for design?” Glad to see historian of DC’s modern schools Amber Wiley quoted in here.
Canceling a grant for a new HVAC system that a historic museum needs in service of “reducing national debt” and then spending a billion dollars a day on a war nobody wants is really sending me into a rage spiral
Biggest takeaway from last night’s event (link to recording): Save Dallas City Hall + buy the t-shirt teeslocal.com/product/save...
www.ft.com/content/caad... Smiljan Radić is a worthy winner of the Pritzker Prize. But architecture’s highest profile award has problems
If you're in the Boston area tonight, consider attending this absolutely stacked panel on architecture criticism. It will also be streamed online www.gsd.harvard.edu/event/critic...
Exactly!
Because their wives handle their returns
As an Adrian Brody hater I have to admit his TurboTax ad shows more of a sense of humor than I was expecting.
For the deck at Sunnyside Yards!
I often wonder if my kids were (somewhat) protected from the worst of ed-tech by going to schools that could never afford to give every kindergartner an iPad www.nytimes.com/2026/03/10/n...
I got to play on the big one that was built in Sapporo web.archive.org/web/20201105...
You should go to the Noguchi’s New York exhibit at the Noguchi Museum, but if you can’t — they commissioned animations of what playing on his unbuilt playgrounds would have been like www.thisiscolossal.com/2026/03/isam...
Oh and also the home organization mania is a perfect example of "more work for mother" today
That + Dolores Hayden's Grand Domestic Revolution are probably my most referenced books
In 1983, Ruth Schwartz Cowan published a book called More Work for Mother where she argued that modern household tech (washing machines/vacuums) didn't reduce women's housework time, it just raised standards of domesticity. Household work is never shortened by tech & you can extrapolate that out.
Additional Biennial comedy: I saw this work by Gabriela Ruiz and said “that’s so Meow Wolf” and my friend says she’s doing Meow Wolf LA
“I got out of jail last Tuesday to a message from my pediatrician, saying ‘call me.’ Then, as I’m looking at other messages, I find out that NYU had closed down their youth gender clinic."
They picked the wrong gal!
Are phishing party invitations a thing? I keep getting e-vites from people who should not be inviting me to a party.
It’s hilarious that “no loitering, no skateboarding, no baggy pants” is now an artwork at the Whitney Biennial www.instagram.com/p/DP6jTEPjIE...
Speaking of kids being allowed to exist in public, I have been re-listening to the excellent @kuow.org podcast LET THE KIDS DANCE this week. Highly recommend, for the reminder that law and order panics about noisy teens are nothing new. www.kuow.org/podcasts/let...
Can teens exist?
If this is the 40th anniversary I probably walked by the first K-Ville (my brother and I spent Fridays after school roaming the Duke campus)
Either some other, better prize based on the AIA 25-Year-Award will be created or architecture will be covered outside an annual invented prize schedule or architecture will not be covered at all! I'm willing to accept c to free us from the ghost of Frank Lloyd Wright.
I dipped in a few times, people were *organized*
I stopped paying attention to the Pritzker Prize some years ago so ... this is fine
