Imagine taking the production of affordable housing as seriously as the federal government took the space race in the 1960s. This actually happened, thanks to the REPUBLICANS running HUD. My story for @bloomberg.com on Operation Breakthrough. www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...

Trump Administration Readies Plans to Dismantle Renowned Science Lab

“The Trump administration is reviewing proposals to break up one of the world’s leading climate and weather laboratories, transfer its work to universities and private companies, take away its aircraft, and sell its property in Boulder, CO.”

Canceling a grant for a new HVAC system that a historic museum needs in service of “reducing national debt” and then spending a billion dollars a day on a war nobody wants is really sending me into a rage spiral

Smiljan Radić is a worthy winner of the Pritzker Prize. But architecture’s highest profile award has problems With its focus on lone (male) genius, the $100,000 prize has lost touch with the field’s changing landscape

As an Adrian Brody hater I have to admit his TurboTax ad shows more of a sense of humor than I was expecting.

I often wonder if my kids were (somewhat) protected from the worst of ed-tech by going to schools that could never afford to give every kindergartner an iPad www.nytimes.com/2026/03/10/n...

An Animated Look at Noguchi's Experimental Playgrounds That Were Never Built "I think of playgrounds as a primer of shapes and functions; simple, mysterious and evocative; thus educational," Isamu Noguchi said.

You should go to the Noguchi’s New York exhibit at the Noguchi Museum, but if you can’t — they commissioned animations of what playing on his unbuilt playgrounds would have been like www.thisiscolossal.com/2026/03/isam...

That + Dolores Hayden's Grand Domestic Revolution are probably my most referenced books

In 1983, Ruth Schwartz Cowan published a book called More Work for Mother where she argued that modern household tech (washing machines/vacuums) didn't reduce women's housework time, it just raised standards of domesticity. Household work is never shortened by tech & you can extrapolate that out.

Let the Kids Dance! A podcast about the rise and fall of Seattle's Teen Dance Ordinance.

Speaking of kids being allowed to exist in public, I have been re-listening to the excellent @kuow.org podcast LET THE KIDS DANCE this week. Highly recommend, for the reminder that law and order panics about noisy teens are nothing new. www.kuow.org/podcasts/let...

Either some other, better prize based on the AIA 25-Year-Award will be created or architecture will be covered outside an annual invented prize schedule or architecture will not be covered at all! I'm willing to accept c to free us from the ghost of Frank Lloyd Wright.
