As shutdown sets record, Head Start preschools start closing — The Christian Science Monitor On Monday, the first Head Start centers started to close, a result of the now record-setting government shutdown. The program serves 715,000 children and their families a year.

When I was a young newly divorced mom of two girls and going back into the workforce Head Start saved me and my girls.
It breaks my heart that this essential program will be no more.
