A pen drawing of a stylized raccoon.

Annoyingly clever. But so darn cute.
I think she needs to be the star of my next picture book.

An illustration of a Grandma polar bear knitting a scarf while a child-like polar bear hides his eyes.

I like to think that even polar bears need a winter scarf for those extra chilly days. (As a Floridian, my scarf came out this week since it was below freezing - brr)! Watercolor and ink…waiting for some digital magic #kidlitillustration #kidlitartpostcard

White House posts digitally altered image of woman arrested after ICE protest Guardian analysis shows images are the same, with Nekima Levy Armstrong looking composed in original but sobbing after alteration

As a librarian who has always taught that .gov is a reliable, unbiased source- this is deeply disturbing.

Although I stepped away from “professional” children’s book illustration for a bit, I was still making art. Honestly, it was more fun, a lot more learning, and a little more teaching. It also included my first visit to NYC and a return to travel sketching and nature journaling. #artvartist

I Have One of the U.S.’s Most Controversial Jobs. Moments Like This Make It All Worth It. I’m a librarian, which means I’m also a therapist, personal assistant, and first responder.

As a librarian for over 20 years (!), I just read this Slate article and it made my heart sing. Public librarians work harder than any librarians I know (and are the least compensated), but are THE ultimate defenders of information. So good! slate.com/life/2025/09...

A water color illustration of a mama and baby manatee

Happy Manatee Day!
In the U.S., these gentle vegetarians live in my native Florida (lucky me)!

One way to protect Florida manatees is to be mindful of fertilizer use. Too much fertilizer causes algae blooms which suffocate the plants a Manatee eats. #manateeappreciation #savethemanatees

Honestly, after the first one the kids flock to them. Great mix of NF info and comics. I love that the 4th and 5th grade students check them out consistently from my library.

A watercolor illustration of an owl child who is shedding a tear because a whale is now extinct. His sad owl parents are hugging in the background.

Happy #kidlitartpostcard week! And if you like these owls, please ask me about my WIP, a graphic novel-esque nonfiction book on shells. I am from Florida, y’all! #watercolorillustration #owls #kidlit #climateillustration

I haven't read that one...is it scary? (I do not like scary - ha ha).

It's hard to beat a good stack of books! I love "King of the Birds," and I've put "Peter Nimble" on hold at the library (not sure how I missed that one). Sadly, I just couldn't get into the Emily Wilde series. I didn't really like her character in the beginning of the first book...

A collection of 9 images, left to right from the top: A cartoon bear, a baby owl crying because whales are extinct, a smiling crab, three watercolor moon shells, a picture of the artist doing pottery, a set of 4 worms lifting an acorn, a picture book cover for the book Where's Mama Whale, two chinstrap penguins, and a Loggerhead sea turtle over a reef.

It's #artvartist time again...honestly, one of my favorite times of the year because I reflect on my own work. I leaned into watercolor this year - in my #kidlitart and with fine art pieces. Plus, I tried my hand at pottery (a definite flop), but I had fun!

I love these sketches! I'm with you - not everything in the year has to be full-blown, finished art. Just drawing is an accomplishment in itself.

A sequential illustration in four parts of a worm trying to lift barbell acorns.

Happy #kidlitartpostcard day! I’m Liz, a school librarian by day and author-illustrator by night, which means I know what kids like! I love non-fiction, animal characters and silly, but educational stories. I’m currently seeking representation.

I just finished The Mona Lisa Vanishes by Nicholas Day- and it was AWESOME! Like Erik Larson, but less gruesome and perfect for 6th grade and up. My teen boy is reading it now. #kidlit

I submitted to #PBparty as an author-illustrator! I'm from Florida (USA) and my story has heart, can be read as informational fiction (includes an author's note), and is definitely interactive. Thanks @mindyalyseweiss.bsky.social (and team) for organizing.

A screenshot of a digital newsletter with an illustration of a red-haired girl reading while sitting in front of a bookshelf full of banned book titles.

It's a nice feeling opening up my Florida SCBWI digital newsletter and I see MY illustration peeking out. Thanks #SCBWI- you rock!
