There's a bit more to the story but I wanted to convey that sense of hope and magic in this little drawing

Unfortunately, when I've tried to look up the origins of this story, it's been difficult to find any information about it. I've only been able to find it by searching in mandarin 九尾猫 (JiuWeiMao) and using google to translate. It's a shame since it's such a cute story.

My mum told me a chinese story about an 8-tailed cat who meditated in the mountains, growing tails to become a deity. Each time it neared nine, it spent a tail to grant a human wish. The cat was stuck in this cycle for many years until a lost boy spent his wish for the cat to grow its final tail 1/3
