10.10.2025 09:50 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Butβ¦ butβ¦ but iβve just bought my βAliens are comingβ protection armour from the Internet? They assured me the worldβs leading scientist had confirmed βtheyβ are coming β¦ π±π
09.10.2025 15:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Great shot. Personally i have not had that much success with winjupos making an appreciable difference for the effort!
09.10.2025 15:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It happens everywhere because no one values software delivered content. Same in music etc.
09.10.2025 08:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I guess my point is that misogyny was rife in physics across UK departments, iβm just not so sure it was at the Nobel selection team vs what they had on the table? I see cock-up vs conspiracyβ¦
08.10.2025 19:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I did not say Bell-Burnell was absent from Physics, only that Bohr continued to develop and extend his Nobel area research to high levels as time progressed so that might have been a contributing factor in his award. I cannot comment on what contribution Bell-Burnell was then (not) allowed to make.
08.10.2025 19:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes but in his case he was co-creator of a key validation with a similar young researcher. The Nobel people may have concluded the relationship was not the same across the Pulsar team? It probably helped that Bohr went on to take his work further over the years preceding the award announcement?
08.10.2025 18:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I understood it was common policy at the time to award to the team leaders who planned, designed and interpreted the research that led to discoveries. Indeed i believe other junior male researchers were also ignored over the years? Nobel changed that policy in the 80βs?
08.10.2025 17:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The belief that return to the Moon would just happen with the βright strategyβ is false. Space journalists never asked why return? and at what cost? There is no clear case outside TV fantasies. If China had not decided to have a crack, this debate would be over for Govts. Private sector or nothing.
07.10.2025 22:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0@pomarede.bsky.social i must express my admiration for your efforts here. Your team videos of the Laniakea region are a joy to explore, as is the music!
06.10.2025 18:13 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Well it's done. 3 talks delivered on the past, present and future of our Galaxy. A privilege to have the retirement time to research and present them to audiences that enjoy the subject matter.
But my Marvin jokes could do with some improvement! #u3a #astronomy #space #scifi
Even more surprising is that they canβt even be arsed to mention the key UK scientists involved on the mission who built one of the imagers and the team developing key data algorithms, all funded by UK tax payers. But thatβs regional journalism for you. Fine as a local article but not a national.
03.10.2025 19:14 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Yeah but the way this is all working out you will be on your own! Apart from Marvin of course.
03.10.2025 19:06 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As the Honorary auditor of @royalastrosoc.bsky.social for next year i could always ask how the Society might be addressing this challenge?
01.10.2025 18:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0And i assume no follow up about why?
01.10.2025 18:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I would imagine the usual βlow ballβ questions and follow ups from the moderatorβ¦
01.10.2025 18:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0He is the gift that keeps on giving, scary as that might beβ¦
01.10.2025 18:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I would have said it has become an irrelevant conference vs others but with the demise of βUSA Spaceβ as a place of partnerships including the Space Symposium outside a defence space world, then it means IAC comes back up the league.
01.10.2025 18:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That voiceless βeyesβ gunfight scene is a classic! Only bettered by Bob Hoskins and Pierce Brosnan in βThe Long Good Fridayβ
30.09.2025 19:31 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It is a long way and a lot can happen. Media of course fans flames. As usual theyβll big up the fight and then try to undermine everyone at some future point just to start the cycle of fear over and over. Fear sells. Hope does not.

28.09.2025 11:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Interesting question. Satellite galaxies are usually called companions although M31 itself is sometimes referred to as our sister galaxy π€
28.09.2025 11:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Funnily enough I imaged M32 and M110 separately since I felt they deserved their own time in the Sun. However... on reflection after taking a look at them I feel I would have been better adding more time on M31 core π€£π€£π€£
27.09.2025 21:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Super shot!

26.09.2025 21:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A curious article. Paraphrasing - Yes they all get along (duh). No itβs not a race with China (but it is). We are excited (obviously!) Our eyes are better than imaging sensors (yeah sure but a lot more expensive!). We We just want to inspire kids. (There are better safer ways!). π€·π»ββοΈπ€
26.09.2025 21:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not so sure there are any science objectives in space exploration that are worth the risk of a life (certainly not from Apollo or ISS), while many claims around spinoffs are vastly overstated vs βwhat would happen anywayβ and yet achieved at huge cost. I have yet to see an objective assessment.
