Results of the McGill Athletics and Recreation Sports Program Review - McGill University Athletics After an extensive internal and external review of our operations, we have made the difficult decision to reduce the number of competitive sport clubs and varsity

mcgillathletics.ca/news/2025/11...

I wonder if people have considered that the contraction of the post-secondary sector will, indirectly, also lead to a decline in our competitiveness in nternational sports?

We like to mock how expensive varsity sports are, but you don't get medals without them

Google scholar search is failing me - does anyone remember a paper from the last few years (which probably means the last 5+?) that modelled outcomes of "defensive" anti decarbonization strategies vs decarb strategies for oil producing regions?

A lot of people don't realize the extent to which the academic process relies on trust. This is why those "sting" operations often work - peer review is good at debating the merits of a given process, analysis, etc. It's not robust to outright liars

AI is particularly well suited to exploiting this

i strongly, strongly believe that good writing is downstream of clear thinking and a strong understanding of the subject matter at hand. without fail, tortured writing comes from writers who donโ€™t know and canโ€™t think clearly about anything.

Draft Implementation Plan for the Renewed Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care - Canada.ca Feedback will help ensure effective implementation of the recommendations from the External Expert Review and inform a renewed Task Force.

OK this is ridiculous. The draft new Canadian public health guidance-development mechanism doubles down on excluding subject matter experts from voting roles, restricts membership to people from inside the EBM pseudoscience bubble, and sets up to funnel public money to McMaster-GRADE courses etc.

Too many boards and presidents appear to believe that the value and legitimacy of their university resides in the brand when it, in fact, resides in knowledge and judgment, which in turn resides in the faculty and academic staff.

Why is the media consistently saying "energy," when they actually mean "oil and gas"?
"Alberta energy deal" rather than "Alberta oil and gas deal" etc.
This is obfuscation.
It serves to present these agreements as beneficial to all, rather than specifically beneficial to the oil and gas industry.
