Let’s Talk About Trump’s Shoe Thing A long list of questions about the president’s gift giving.

New @amandamull.bsky.social on the 👞: "I’m not sure that any of those questions are really answerable, but the image of all the president’s men in their ill-fitting cater waiter shoes is nonetheless a useful one, just as it’s useful to remember that Trump loves theater" (🎁)

Beirut’s Restaurant Scene Signals Lebanon Is Making a Comeback After a difficult few years, cafés and restaurants are full again as tourists return to the cosmopolitan streets of Lebanon’s capital.

I edited this lovely story last fall about the resurgence of tourism and restaurants in Beirut. I’ve always wanted to go there. I’m so sad for what the people of that city are going through after all they’ve been through already.

Gas Prices Are Rising—and So Are the Iran War Stakes for Trump Cheap fuel had been a bright spot for the US economy before tankers stopped moving through the Middle East.

“Gas is something we tend to buy on a weekly basis,” @gasbuddyguy.bsky.social says. “But also we see the price hundreds of times a day. Even if you’re not buying it, you see the price, so the salience of gas prices is like no other.” (gift link)

But Michelle Brouhard, head of policy and geopolitical risk at Kpler, a data and analytics firm that specializes in commodities, thinks a fast resolution is unlikely. She points out that Israel may have a timeline of its own with Iran, and says if the conflict drags on, oil supplies could be restricted for months. Iran on Sunday signaled it has no intention of backing down, with the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei, the hardline son of the assassinated Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as the new supreme leader. The online prediction market site Polymarket puts the chances of the Iranian regime falling by the end of June at only about 33%.

One thing to consider when Trump says the Iran war could be ending soon ... he's not the only actor here. bloom.bg/3OXSKqM
