HUD has been touring the building for months. NSF says nothing…”nothing to see here”.

I’m quite sick of gaslighting, bullying, and lack of respect for science and academia. It’s getting harder and harder to take.

NSF, NASA and NIH budgets per year, inflation adjusted from 2000-2025 along with the proposed cuts. NSF includes research component only. Massive cuts across all sectors, well below support spanning 25 years.

How bad will it be? Catastrophic.

Proposed cuts to #NSF, #NIH, and #NASA will set the US R&D landscape back 25 yrs+, cause economic and job loss now, and undermine innovations to come.

But, this is the WH's *proposed* budget.

Speak up now before it is too late.

Trump administration cuts to NSF will result in more than 200,000 FEWER people per year involved in basic science, training, and education - what should have been the next generation of US scientists. This isn't even eating your seed corn, it is setting your seed corn on fire and salting the earth.

The Presidents Budget Request for NASA is out. It’s a bloodbath

Canceled are DAVINCI, VERITAS, Juno, OSIRIS-APEX, US participation in ExoMars and EnVision…

Huge cut to R&A. No funding to begin development of the Uranus Orbiter.

If you’ve ever cared about NASA, time to contact congress.

A schema of study units based on three aspects of species: their spatiotemporal association (geography), their evolutionary relationships (phylogeny), and their ecological requirements and effects (niche). Each of those aspects defines a different unit of study: community, clade, and guild, respectively. The intersections of those units define additional, more proscribed units that are subsets of two or more larger units.

Join Drs. Amanda Gibson (University of Virginia), Corlett Wood (University of Pennsylvania), Lynda Delph (Indiana University), and Curt Lively (Indiana University) for a six-day workshop on evolutionary biology for early career graduate students. During this week, you'll have the time and support to think deeply about the evolutionary questions that excite you and to engage in focused conversations with a small group of peers. As your group shapes ideas into a research proposal, you'll practice communicating with one another and articulating yourself in writing. The workshop will also include tutorials on the art of science writing and question development.

We have found this workshop to be particularly valuable for students who are early in their PhD, prior to writing their dissertation proposal. We assume some prior experience working in the field of evolutionary biology. The research proposal is an exercise in scientific thought and communication; it will reflect the mutual interests of your group and does not need to focus on your specific dissertation research. So, come prepared to work with your group on a wide range of evolutionary questions and approaches that may fall outside your area of expertise!

Workshop dates: July 27 - August 2, 2025
Enrollment limit: 16
Cost: $300 (with financial assistance available, including registration awards for student members of the American Society of Naturalists)
Deadline for cancelation with refund: July 13, 2025
Location: Mountain Lake Biological Station, Pembroke, Virginia

For more information and to register, visit https://mlbs.virginia.edu/evolutionary-biology-workshop

X version of NSF text on cancelled grants

The comms working at the NSF on X had this to say.

Americans should know that for 75 years NSF has supported science and technology in the nation's service & helped to secure the national defense.

Breaking it will have consequences for decades to come.

We need an *independent* NSF now.
