Confirmed flu cases jump nearly 61%: federal data Laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza have jumped by almost 61 per cent, according to recent data released Friday.

The latest Canadian respiratory virus surveillance report, produced by the FluWatch+ surveillance program, found that confirmed cases rose from 2,273 to 3,655 in the last week of November.

Police charge teenager following overdose deaths We have charged a 17-year-old with several drug offences following two overdose deaths that occurred over the summer. In June 2025, two people fatally overdosed on the Tsuut’ina Nation. Police officers were able to identify potential drug traffickers and the Calgary Police Service Drug Unit launched a five-month investigation. Calgary police determined that a 17-year-old boy was selling cocaine, often conducting the exchanges during his school lunch break. On Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, police arrested the youth, who cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. A search warrant executed at a residence resulted in the seizure of cellphones, cash, scales, bear spray, cocaine, and methamphetamine. The youth is now charged with: Eight counts of trafficking of a controlled substance Seven counts of possession of property obtained by crime Two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking One count of carrying a concealed weapon One count of possession of identity documents The youth will appear in court on Friday, Dec. 5, 2025. “It’s critical that those who sell drugs are held accountable for their actions”, says Inspector Jeff Pennoyer of the Calgary Police Service Criminal Networks Section. “This case is particularly disturbing since the accused is so young.
